Thought you where Teetotal Bothy!!!!

Regards Clare

Not sure about being teetotal, but I think you would need be drunk to read that

(I'll let you know if I am right about that later on tonight :drunk: )

Slight Off-Topic (and is there any other way to be?), anyone outside of the Auld Country watch "Gary, Tank Commander"? I treat it as educational in order to understand Bothy and Big Key :help2:

And No I do NOT want one, or i would have nothing to winge about :angry: Stew

Long overdue in my opinion Stew, 'cause I reckon you have the knack for cutting through all the crud and getting to the real point of things

Chatters - Yeah nice to see you on and star for services previously rendered seems good to me.

Shcm and Bothy promoted for services rendered to the electronics and 4.1 gurus.

Well thanks, I'm just happy to help if and when I've got time to, but I'm not really in to all this star stuff..............No, you can't have them back, they are mine, mine, my precious..........

For some reason, it reminds me of collecting Green Shield Stamps. How many for a tacky fondue set and a tasteful(?) lava lamp?

Happy nude ear to all :drunk:

Oh well I'll just have to make do with my carbon fibre and titanium composites and kevlar brake pads

I love it when you talk Dirty Chatters!!! Whoa!! just a minute!! just noticed Jamies got a star, he has not been on for 12mths, He,s a self admitted Bicyclist, Manxrav, ran off with Geerman 3yrs ago and has just come back, she has a star, Dave M has defected to a car made by a company that produces light bulbs, he has a star, Anchs left on a Korea move, and bought a car from a country that eats hot poodles. he has 5 stars, Wee charlies, fell out left us and comeback all in a fortnight, he has a star..Whats going on :unsure: And No I do NOT want one, or i would have nothing to winge about :angry: Stew

Thank you for my star Anchs, I hope the people i mentioned above realise i was only joking, you all deserve them and SHCM + Bothy there 2 stars.. Anchs i am genuinely not bothered about mine, I am not sure the Star thing is a good idea (just my opinion) it is good to reward people who do well for the forum, but it is also easy to miss people out who maybe are not able to post as much, or do not have the technical knowledge to answer questions, yet still contribute in other ways. I think there are a few others who deserve them, but if i were to name them i might also miss someone out, To sum up thanks and a happy new year/hogmanay to all those who contribute whether they are new members or more established members.. :group-cuddles: :hug::xmas::band::clap::cheers::drunk::newyear::newyear::toot::toot::toast::yahoo: Stew

I am not sure the Star thing is a good idea (just my opinion)....................

In all sincerity, I couldn't have put it better myself. I did have much the same thought about it Stew, but have kept it to myself. Not that I'm ungrateful and it's nice to be recognised, but I did wonder about the flip side of hacking some members off.

Anyway, this is probably not the time to debate it. Maybe a poll or something to see what people really think?

Cheers

The star thing isn't easy to manage fairly. At first I had no input to it but then realised that apart from Kingo who is obviously recognised for his help with parts, the only other time anyone seemed to get a star was a single one only. I personally only go on the RAV forum as it is my way of limiting the amount of time that I spend sitting a damned computer so any of the members I have given a star are exclusive to this part of the forum and I hope other mods are looking after their respective pages.

In terms of stars I try to determine what constitutes a "contributor" and therefore a "contributor rating" (star). Well it could be argued that anyone that has been on a long time or has made a large number of posts has demonstrated loyalty to the site so as a rule of thumb I use three years or more than a thousand posts as indicators then the level of input with useful information as qualifiers. If an item has been pinned as useful to anyone browsing so that they can quickly answer their own question then that almost surely qualifies - don't forget that not everyone registers for some reason.

That then raises the question of what does a member have to do to get 2 or more stars. In that respect I have tried to judge the quality and consistency (how useful and detailed the posts are as they do require a time and effort commitment). For instance if somebody has to research, add photos or pdf's that all takes extra time with other programs.

There are no guidelines other than Giddlepins statement in the General Section and I am taking this as it comes rather than trawling back over past pages. If it is obvious from the pinned section it has or should have been done - please feel free to remind me, nominate or come up with valid suggestions of what you would like to see. I don't want to upset anyone who feels they put a lot in and these stars mean more to some members than they do to others but I have tried to apply some logic to it and would welcome ideas or suggestions. The poll is a good idea and one I will give some thought to the content today. I don't want to depersonalise it with a rigid matrix but some good guidelines. I will copy and paste these comments into the same thread.

Anchs, I and everybody appreciates (or should) how much work you put into the RAV section. If 6 stars could be awarded you should have 'em :D.

I'm not questioning how you award them - knowing you it's going to be completely fair and from above it sounds it.

I treat them as a bit of fun. Truthfully, I couldn't care less whether I have 'em or not, but the recognition is appreciated. I think probably most members are treating them in the same vane, but since their introduction across the forum, they do seem to have raised a bit of contention now and again.

They seem to me one of those things where you're not going to please everybody. You're caught between a rock and a hard place.

So, I'm only questioning (and I don't have the answer) whether it was sensible to introduce them in the first place (and I'm talking about the whole forum there, not just the RAV section). Then again, if you didn't have them, you'd get the "I'm getting no recognition" complaints from some. Like I said, rock and hard place.

Cheers Mate

Ditto, and thanks SHCM  Would have took me about three pages to say exactly the same thing, Stew... P.S. Certainly not Questioning you Anchs :toast: Maybe we could have 2 opposing views (for and against) and then a Forum poll..

Personally i think the star idea is a good one

It shows to me as new memeber and others i should think that the forum has members who have been loyal and stayed around for some time to help, especially the not so mechanically minded, such as meself and others, with good well thought out answers.

So i would feel honoured if i was awarded one,as all the hard work, and loyalty that has been done has been recognised at least.

I know for a fact that i will be asking more questions than i could give answers to so am grateful to all those that give their time to answer my questions.

So keep up the good work

Both Anchs and Schm have put forward very good and informed explanations. I agree with both, you win some you lose some it is a fine line, but the idea of a poll is worth a go.

Me personally, I just love this Forum and it is like a Daily shot in the arm,(couldn,t do without it)I am not techy minded and the amount of info I have learn,t over the years doesn,t bear thinking about. So keep up the Good work!!!!!

A grateful Clare

PS Do you like my New Avator!!!!! have finally learn,t how to do it

I agree clare. I love the forum... Especially the sense of friendship and commaradary (sp?). The stars are a good way of identifying those not only loyal to the group but also those who make good technical contribution.

I dont think a poll is required. Let's just get on being a forum.

There's my tuppence worth.

Yeah, and I was wondering whether there was a market for an exclusive IOM steering wheel with the triskelion making up the "spokes". ;).

Ditto both above.

I find the forum to be a little bit of insanity in an otherwise humdrum world.

Oh, and I've learnt loads and 'met' a wide variety of folk of whom I would otherwise never have had the pleasure. Many laughs raised and lots of support received.

Two minds about stars but ultimately it's the community that counts. My philosophy is, if you can't help a 'neighbour' or cheer their way, then leave them alone
