I'm in the process of purchasing a Toyota Verso 2.2 D-4D (2006 Model) and have been informed by the seller that besides the heating not working on this car, there has been a clutch type smell in the past. Upon inspection, I'v found that this is truly the case and that there is a damp patch underneath the carpet in the passenger floorboard area. Having looked up this problem, I understand that it is likely to be a problem with the heater core which isn't working and has leaked into he floor board. My question is, could this problem had a more wider affect and caused damage to other parts of the vehicle, which is likely to end up costing me a lot more in the long run? I am getting the car at a good price and have now allowed for the cost of replacing the heater core. Many thanks.

Sounds like a headgasket problem stay clear what is the mileage?

The milage was 112k. When I took a detailed look at the car today, there was an awful small coming from the heating & the engine was smoking a little. I topped up the water in the rad before I took it for a test drive which was only for around 10 mins. By the time I brought it back the water level had gone down! The clutch was also making a noise so it seems the whole clutch was about to go. At that point I did my sums & realised it wasn't worth buying. many thanks for your input Waseem.

If you buy a car below 112k it us still under warranty for the head gasket fault. But I would steer clear it needs a new engine
