Merry Xmas and hope everyone has survived another special day of excess! hahaha We must of had what the UK received the other night...Jaysus, I though my garage was going to take off!...Unusally mild here....even going to have plus 8 or 10c tomorrow. Going to fit my mudflaps tomorrow on the Rav and give it a wash too!...that's how bored I am!

Keep your chin up buddy. I work on the railway now although I did have a LGV license at one time. The same applies to a truck to some extent as it does to a train. If somebody puts themself in front of it there is only a certain amount the driver can do. It looks like he got off lightly and frankly I hope the pain in his hand deprives him of his usual twilight passtime.

You did your bit by saving his life so stop beating yourself up and if anything give yourself a pat on the back.

Thanks mate, I didn't do anything though because he came out of the darkness,it happened so quick that I didn't have time to change course. I know it's not my fault and I think it's just shock that I'm experiencing. I'll be fine in a day or 2, back out to work tomorrow at 4am, heh heh, no rest for the wicked :rolleyes:

My eyes will be extra pealed :eek:

Hope You feel better soon Mate !! A large lump of boredom on its way on Santa's sleigh !!

Cheers mate, I take it the estimated time of that delivery is about 12 months :)

I put it on 18 months delivery..... I was hoping You would get bored waiting by the door for it .......... :unsure: :unsure: :unsure:

Well the parking sensors or reversy bleep bleeps as my Scottish friend calls them are up and running. I removed the alloy bumper stiffener and waxoyled all around the back and inside the cavities. All built up with the missing bolts replaced and everything cliped up.

Nice one Don,seems like you've done a bad job good :thumbsup:

We have the reversing sensors on the newer Rav,do these come as standard fit on this model do you know??

Well we never had time to get bored after cooking for eight yesterday and then seven today and have enjoyed every minute of it :thumbsup:

Plus it was our twin daughters birthday Christmas Eve so Christmas is a special time for us and make the most of it. :yahoo:

OK, a little more on my activities over the break. What else would you do other than pull your car apart. After fitting the parking sensors and waxoyling the rear end, as the weather was sub-tropical it seemed a good idea to carry on with the front.

I'd seen this when I changed the headlight bulbs but look at the surface rust on these bolt heads;

IMG_0492-2.jpg

This is the result of low mileage and living very close to the sea. It doesn't matter other than the looks but as my young electronics guru shcm (grasshopper) advocates the use of this stuff I thought I would humour him. Actually it is brilliant for stopping surface rust and it just makes me feel better!

So. Bumper off;

IMG_0493-2.jpg

Then the energy absorbing members off to allow the radiators to be masked;

IMG_0494-2.jpg

......and get the waxoyl warm enough to spray;

IMG_0495-1.jpg

Spray behind those cross mebers while they are off;

IMG_0497-1.jpg

......and right inside those chassis members

IMG_0496-1.jpg

This shows the bottom of the air intake together with a four litre bottle to catch any water drawn in. Goodness knows how one member managed to wreck an engine in the water recently. Either something was missing or the water was VERY deep;

IMG_0499-1.jpg

While all the shields are off there is a perfect opportunity to change the oil. Plug out and drain the filter with the supplied adapter;

IMG_0500-1.jpg

Use the fancy new socket to undo the dealer welded on filter housing. This took all my strength with a half inch ratchet and would have surely destroyed another one of those tin sockets;

IMG_0501.jpg

Evidence of a complete pleb doing it last time - copperslip on the O ring. Give me strength :angry:

IMG_0502.jpg

This shows how well the socket fits (best £25 I've spent for ages) and note the correct position of the sealing O ring. Plug and housing torqued up correctly (little more than nipped) then 5.9 litres of Morris's 5W/30 semi synthetic.

Rebuilt, bumper cleaned and polished and a run around the block. Now its time for alcohol :thumbsup:

Good to see the pics with the thread. Still cant get over the copperease on the oil filter housing! But at least you've use some engine oil on the new rubber ring to re-fit. Just wondering why not a full synth and a semi oil?

For anyone not confident enough to do it themselves, this company get good reviews on the Landy forums: http://www.thewaxworks.net/index.html

It can soften and swell rubber.

Copperslip is clay based. With age it can congeal and harden. Its good in high temp applications but if somebody is going to use a specialised grease why not plain old rubber grease?

As for why not fully synthetic? I had enough Morris's in stock so simply used it up. It is a first class oil and well up to this job. I did buy 12 litres (3X4 litres) of Shell Helix 5W/40 fully synthetic when it was on offer at wise buys or pound shop or whatever it is called. That is enough for two oil changes so will get used in due course. Fully synthetic is not always a good idea if your engine uses oil as it can increase consumption still further. It has the ability to stick to the cylinder walls that well it can get into the upper cylinder. I bought it after buying the blue RAV which like this one doesn't use any measurable oil. In this case it will be fine.

:thumbsup: Brilliant post Anchs,with photos as well.I must admit I am a big Waxoyl fan,but must admit I haven,t the bottle to do the things that you do with your Ravs.I,d probably take the front and rear bumpers off and forget which went where!!!!!

Actually... Just looked at my photos again and it's definately there... I'm sure I recall seeing the outlet not attached to anything... Ah well. Who knows!

It was you was it Webbers? I couldn't remember. I did have a study at the intake though because after coming down past the bottle it curls all the way back up on the other side of undershield;

Then comes out and faces backwards under the wing;

I started to fit my new iPod interface today and was going very well, until found a slight connection glitch, so will have to wait a few days to resolve I think.

I did manage to sort out the position for the phone holder and power cable routing, but hardly a tough job with the suction cups :lol:

Have you got the part No and a couple of photos especially round the back of the radio Hoovie? I just want to see how similar it is to mine. I don't want the USB kit.
