Toyota Warranty

Hi all, I have placed a thread on the site about water loss from the expansion tank (Possiable Head Gasket issue) on a Toyota avensis d4d, I was informed by Hedifirst about the extended warranty which toyota has placed on the engine due to the issue. I had bought the car second hand from a car dealer at 50,000 miles with a full service history and I had it serviced by a garage on the 60 and 70,000 miles and each time I had the booked stamped. Since then I've done the sevice myself and I've kept on top of the manitaince of the car. I know that a head gasket can go at any time and its somting thats not done duing each service. Would anybody know if the engine warranty would be effected because of having no stamps in the book since its 70k service, bering in mind that Toyota know about the problem and it extended the warranty up to 112k or 7 years. Many thanks Andy750 :help:

My understanding is that the service history needn't be all Toyota dealer but is usually expected to be at least done by VAT-registered garages.

You may have to prove that you are competent, that services were done according to schedule & that all the appropriate quality consumables etc. were used.

I have taken the car to the local toyota dealer and repairer, just got a phone call back from them saying that it is the head gasket that has gone. I asked if it was covered by the warranty the reply was YES. It just goes to show that even if its checked out by the AA,RAC its best to take it to the dealer to double check. Taking nothing away from the AA guy, he had done his best by the road side which included a persure test for the expansion tank and he check for water coming out of the exhaust, but not only that he also done a sniff test looking for Carbon minoxide within the water tank (NOTHING showed up) his answer was Thermostat was cream crackered. I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens next. Cheers Andy750

PS Not sure if you want to keep this as a stickey for someone else to read as a help!

The Toyota warranty doesn't cover everything lol. My EGR valve was diagnosed broken this morning and was told that it's not covered. To me if it's stuck from day one it's broken/faulty and if it's broken it's faulty. Don't know how or why the valve broke - annoyed just a bit.....

Hi Andy,

When the AA guy did a "Sniff" test was that one that tests for Hydrocarbons in the coolant by way of a chemical test?Because if that test was done then I would have expected it to have shown up the head gasket failure!...

Hi Mistermena

With regards to the above quote, Yes the AA guy had done a Hydrocarbon test, however am not sure how much blue test liquid your ment to put into the test bottle, from what I had seen he did'nt put much in and when he pumped the test bottle the colour never changed. This is the reason why he came up with the answer of the thermostat being cream crackered.

Thanks for getting back to me on this mate. I've just got the test kit now so I'll be doing mine in a couple of days time.
