Fitting Mudfalps To A Rav4.2

Hej Hej Boys and Grls!

Nice day today and decided to fit the Original part Rav4.2 mudflaps....all went well apart from nearly doing a great impression of the "Angry Man" :censor: trying to get the grommet to fit into the bottom of the nearside front flap....there's no way it's goin in!...the grommet appears too short to me!....All three screws match and fit snuggly except that bottom grommet! The offside was not a problem and managed the bottom grommet in easy peasy....just wondering if it's me...or has anyone else had this issue?...Will it be ok with just the three wheel arch screws without the grommet at the bottom? Whadya reckon?

Thanks in advance and stay warm!

Cheers

Whilst it should be OK without it I would still want it in place.. If its a little tight why not measure the grommet and run a drill bit through the hole to make sure its clear ?? I had no issues at all with My ones.. HTH...... :thumbsup:

Thanks Charlie....it's just too flippin short...and it seems not big enough to fit it in the hole...fnrrr fnrrrr.....I tried the grommet on it's own in the hole and it's fine...but by the time I put it through the whole in the mudflap it a bit smaller and too neat to "open up" in the hole!...Maybe a longer, bigger grommet is the answer...but will Mr T's spare parts guys just think am a tool!...answers on a postcard please! hahaha

Shame, cause all the offer ones fit grand on the old tank!

Have you tried swapping the one from the other side to check?

EDIT

Are you meaning a square plastic expanding plug that goes into the underbody?

If so this should go in to the hole in the underbody first with the mudflap over it and the screw then inserted throught the hole in the mudflap lug into the expanding plug.........

Have you got a photo?

Right....that would explain it!....I thought it was just the grommet! :blink:

Was wondering what the extra screws were for!....I am a donut!

That's why I need you clever Dudes and why I need this Forum! ...Doh!

Many Thanks....

Well this shows a bit about how the 4.3 mudflaps fit;

I don't have the instructions for 4.2s but after fitting that captive nut insert you just send the supplied screw into it. I wonder who has got my blue one now???

Beat me to it Dave. This fella will get on your nerves "OK" but if you look about 5 minutes into the clip you can see a similar fixing being used;

If you're getting a genuine set it should come complete with all necessary fixings and clear instructions Paul :thumbsup:

The instructions for fitting rears to tha 4.3 show to remove the wheels which I'm sure makes the job easier but I managed mine without doing so - just a bit more fiddly.

Front wheels can simply be turned left/right as required.

Hej, yes they were an original Toyota set, however, you only get new fasteners (2) for the bottom of the rear gaurds....nothing else!
