D4D Battery Swap

Hello Everybody,

Hope you had a good Christmas and are looking forward to a peaceful and successful new year.

Now then, can anyone advise on changing the Battery in my 2004 Avensis 2-litre D4D? It's got the original factory-fitted Battery and it's starting to sound a bit sluggish on the starter after 7 years.

When fitting a new Battery, do I need to get something reprogrammed after disconnecting the old battery or are there any electronic issues I should be aware of?

Or (as I'm hoping) is it just a case of old battery out, new battery in - like it was in the good old days before cars were encumbered with ready-to-fail software?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Happy New Year!

My Battery failed without any notice 3 months ago, the engine wouldnt even run from a jump. Luckily it was on the drive so get it changed quickly so you arent stranded somewhere. I got my Battery from eurocarparts i think it was 75 quid including vat

Thanks for your swift replies.

It's a relief to know that I don't need a PhD in electronics and access to NASA's computer systems to change the Battery! But it does sound as though access to a healthy bank account is what's needed :D

I'll shop around and see what I can get.

Thanks again.

Hi, bought a VARTA off the web from Tanya which pepped up my the starting of my 54 plate D4D last week. £90 posted. It was an original Battery in there.

One word of warning is that I had to pack out the mounting brackets to hold the Battery tight as the height and profile of the Battery top was different to the original Delphi. If you don't want the hassle then £100 from Toyota fitted sounds like a reasonable deal.

And the Toyota Battery did last for 7 years .... Bargain at £100.00 and it fits spot on as well!

Pete.
