Steering Proble.

hi all.

the problem is.. start the car and everything seems good. turn steering wheel a quarter turn and im greated with an allmighty squeel and i mean its loud!

very loud and also steering feels heavy untill u straighjten wheel back up. when driving its fine uness you need to heavy stear at slow speed the the squeel will be back. steering fluid is topped up

any ideas?

Hello alex and welcome to the forum, if you have just topped up the fluid then the system may have an air lock if not then I think that the belt that drives the power steering pump needs adjusting.

I'm with Pete on this one. Squeels are normally belt related and particularly prevelant during winter when old belts are harder due to lower temperatures. Try adjusting it first to see if that elimantes the problem and if it does it may be worth considering a new belt as they aren't too expensive.

Thanks guys i had a quick look at the belt it seems relitively tight to press. and looks in good condition but i will try adjusting also the power steering fluid has been recently topped up but it was not below the minimum level to start with just hoping its not the power steering pump or anything to do with steering rack
