Noisy Wipers

Has anyone had trouble with noisy front windscreen wipers?

It seems worst when on a motorway at speed. It sounds like they are hitting the right hand windscreen frame but it could be as the wiper flips to go back again.

It could just be a case of needing new wipers; it’s a 2006 Rav4 D4D XT4 and has always done this since I bought it about 1.5 years ago.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I found with our 4.2 that using anything other than Toyota OE wipers causes strange thumps, bangs, etc. I also find that Mr.T's are actually cheaper than Bosch in Halfrauds.

Since buying mine from parts king, I have no problems (and the wipers work well too  ); they get delivered quickly, and they are a good price. Worth a try if you haven't replaced them for 12 months or more.

How do I tell if they are genuine Mr T they were on when I got it? And do you think new ones will cure it or is it a common fault with the Rav?

I have just changed mine, front and back, amazing difference to both noise and efficiency.

Front Wipers these are the Bosch without the aerofoil, work ok on mine.

Rear blade this is exactly the same as the one fitted at the factory.

ordered them and they arrived the next day, couldnt be bothered with exchanging the rubbers just did the whole blade, less than 5 mins for all three.

They are a clam Shell design which cost about £55 off Kingo. Once fitted, they only need a new set of replacement rubbers every 10k miles. I have tried every sort of aftermarket wipers including Toyota Optifit. Don't waste your money.

I have a wealthy friend who spends nearly all his holidays in That Florida. He brought me back a full set of the USA spec Wiper Blades and they are, IMHO, MILES better than Bosch / Optifit / Bloggs Aerodynamic Hoojykaflicks. I too had tried a concoction of wipers, and these wipe the floor with them (and the glass....).If anybody is as wealthy as him and going to Disnae World, I have the part numbers to hand.

Bang goes all ma golf balls from Kingo, eh....?

Big Kev

I ordered the above front wipers, like you they came next day. I have just fitted them and they seem great and very quiet. I won’t know for sure if it has stopped the banging noise until I am driving at speed on a wet day.

Thanks Nick.

Kev, I just replaced the rubber inserts in my wipers a few days ago. Some people change the entire arm, but that's wasteful and I'm cheap. Got the refills from my local Toyota dealer. Total with tax was about $16. Here's the US part numbers:

wiper blade rubber refill

-------------------------

Driver side 600mm - 85214-YZZD5 ($6.35)

Passenger side 425mm - 85214-12301 ($4.50)

Rear - 85214-31010 ($3.23)

Many thanks for these, James....I too have done it that way , but when you compare the price of the WHOLE AERODYNAMIC ARM one gets at US prices with the whole arm price in rip-off Britain, it compares very favourably, but the difference in quality is immense.

You should see the state of me trying to re-thread an insert (nearly called it a "rubber" there....now that WOULD squeak on the glass...?).

Big Kev

European front wipers are nothing like US wipers. The rears are the same. I will take you a photo.

...and be prepared for a laugh / convey sympathy, James.....can't remember exactly what we pay for our "official" skeletal type wipers, but it would NOT go down well in USA.
