Engine Warning Light Help

Hi Guys

I know this may have been covered elsewhere but can not find any info.

I have a 2001 4.2 D4D Rav.

Yesterday I was accelerating up hill over taking a slow car.

Suddenly I had a complete loss of power and the engine warning light came on.

I managed to get the Rav to the side of the road left it for a few minutes and then restarted it.

Every thing was fine and I drove the 40 miles home with out missing a beat, the only problem being that the engine warning light stayed on.

This morning I gave it another try after having read somewhere that the light might have gone off of its own accord.

I started the engine but the light is still on.

It does not appear to be having any effect on the Rav it accelerates fine with no loss of power.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem/cure might be?

Cheers Jim

Hi Jim, there are more qualified people on the forum to answer this like 'anchorman'...etc but the same thing happened to me (2004 D4D) a couple of weeks ago and like you I continued my journey with no probs at all? After reading advice on here, the next day I took the negative lead off the Battery for a minute to get rid of the 'check engine' light and the car has drove sweet since (touch wood) Now It has been advised not to jump at any sort of problem like SCV's etc and to get an engine code number to point you in the right direction!

Hope this helps (for now anyway)

Steve

firstly check with resistance of SCV; clean contacts of turbo pressure sensor; clean an impulse tube for the same;

thanks to no power loss was observated after then you have possible control signal casual loss. also -- check with draining ***** from fuel filter -- whether or not water is in diesel available. check and revert/cheers
