2008 150 2.2 D4D - Diesel Dripping?

Hi All

Being the cheap-skate, when passing a garage with low priced diesel, I filled up as much as possible. I gave it a good few clicks after the pump stopped.

Since, especially in the recent rain, I see oily patches under the rear passenger side of the car - presumably where the fuel tank/filler arrangement is located.

The question: Is this likely to be a symptom of me over-filling the tank? i.e. a pool of diesel hidden somewhere, which is being washed out with the rain?

Or, have a coincidentally got some kind of leak.

I cannot find a location where it is dripping... I tried leaving cardboard under the car to catch any drips... but have not found any. Yet, when it rains, I see the oily smear coming out.

Any advice? (Other than "Don't overfill the tank" !)

You have answered your own questions for me

Dirty Diesel runs and runs, a small amount of it will spread all over a panel. The rain will wash it off partly thus producing the smear.

On a more serious note, Diesel and wet roads is a very bad combo for motorcyclist's so perhaps stopping at the first click is a plan :)
