Avensis Hatchback 2007 Boot Rattle

So I took delivery of my new Avensis two days ago and made the long trip from the T dealer back to home(200 miles).

Car was surprisingly good for 1.8, I managed 45mpg (reported - perhaps less real world), and never felt short of power.

Only things annoying me are rattles - particularly from the back of the car. I thought it was parcel shelf but after removing this continued. I now think it is the boot lid... the 'hasp' is attached to the car with two torx screws and these has come lose. Externally you could easily make the boot lid creak by gently pressing up/down on it. I pushed the hasp down as far as it would go and tightened the screws - it is better but not perfect. Anyone else had similar issue or have solution that they want to share - is this problem common?

Thanks

Tim

Cant say i've noticed however i will check mine tomorrow maybe they were incorrectly torqued from the factory as mine is a 07 too, the only noise mine seems to make is a creak of plastic that sounds like its coming from inside the head lining near the top of the windscreen drivers side ie right in front of where driver sits, i could be in the wrong place but it is friggin annoying, on another note you must have an extremely light foot i had a 06 1.8 before my diesel and never got anywhere near 45mpg and this was brand new at the time, nice car but i got fed up with being overtaken by little diesels so i got a big one.

Well I was wrong, the fix *is* perfect. THe remaining noise was being made by a golf umbrella in the boot

Easiest way to check s just push down gently on both sides of closed boot lid from outside. If it creaks, it needs adjusting.

Enjoyed the quiet so much this morning that I turned my music down...
