A10 Gauge Fuse Burnt

Hi!

Iam having some problems lately with 10A Gauge fuse in my Avensis T22. My front light bulb (H7) have burn out, so I changed both of them (not without problems while replacing, because wire holding the bulb stuck). I have also poked around back lights (position lights) to change their bulbs also (I have found out that one of bulbs is 10W and other 5W where 5W is suggested). After those operations I headed back to the wheel and noticed that

  • Speed-o-meter is offline
  • Most of dashboard icons are offline (including check engine, abs etc) - they do not lit up on key turn
  • Dashboard air control is offline (no power there either)
  • Master window switch is offline (can't open/close windows)

I investigated fuse box inside of the car and noticed that 10A Gauge fuse is burned out. I have replaced it and everything was fine, while driving. When I arrived at destination, do around my business and get back to car I noticed that 10A Gauge fuse is again out. So I think, that it's fusing is caused when entering (or leaving) vehicle.

I was analyzing schematics for T22 but 10A Gauge fuse is around of many systems and Iam not sure if it got any connection with Front/Back lights I was working on earlier. Does anybody know if this 10A Gauge Fuse got any connection with Frt/Bck Lights and their operations ?! (BTW. Front lights are running normally, I have no idea about back - forget to check on arrival)

I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Try checking the earthing connections and look at the wiring associated with the head lamp. Look for any melting of cable insullation.

Bad earthing can blow the fuse.

I was going to mention the 'Dome' fuse in the engine bay fuse box, but I am not sure if this is related to your problem.

You had problems changing the headlamp bulbs - maybe a wire is damaged.

You may have to go to an auto electrian!

Yes, that fuse might have something to do with the front and rear lights. I was looking at some wiring diagrams. If you have a car with running daytime relay the 10A gauge fuse is in that wiring diagram. The fuse is also in the diagram of the back up lights.

My guess is that your problem is with the front lamp holder where you mentioned you had probelms with the wire.

Under the hood, front light power plug was cracked and not attached to bulb properly. I have isolated it with some isolation tape and secured tigtly. When tried to start car -- Battery died ... I have wait for few minutes, so charge would accumulate and tried again - and it started (with some trouble). 10A Fuse was replaced and is ok for now. I wonder why Battery died. Is quite new (1year) and surrounding temp was not low (about 10C) -- meaby there was short circuit going over night and that depleted Battery ?!

This way or another - it works for now - thanks for help!
