Got me 8 litres of 5w30 Castrol gtx for £20 (rrp £20 for 4 litres)

Got to be a bargain.

Noticed last night that Tesco are doing Magnatech at a considerably reduced price but can't remember either quantity or price..................

Asda often do this.. You have to be careful to get the 5w30 Fully synthetic though as They often have both... I have about 8 x 4 litre containers in the garage ... RRP IS actually 26 quid !!

I have always bought my engine oils from my local motor factors who can always match others prices when asked so I never bother about supermarket deals. I always ask for trade discount and he always discounts accordingly.

It's surprising what discounts can be had from many local motor factors especially during these difficult financial times so it is worth trying to cultivate a good rapport with counter staff plus you are supporting your local economy.

Strangely I have just got back from ASDA, and seen the same offer, 5w30 A1 (rat pee oil)and 15w40 at £10 per 4L no indication as to whether it was fully synth though? Does the A1 indicate fully synth?

Will have to look into the Tesco offer any 5W40 oil going cheap anywhere?

Couldn't agree more

Use it or lose it. Once the local businesses are forced out we are at the mercy of the big boys.

I used to work very near Tesco head office and the rumour locally was that their execs didn't know their fathers........

I would have to agree here, I went into my local motor factors looking for some 5w30 oil for a volvo with the correct specs.

I was baffeled by the different types of 5w30 oils there were, they must have had going onto 20 different 5w30 motor oils.....

I was there for quite some time I tell you  the brews and biscuits came out

We have stored, 2000 litres of engine oil. Brand new but bought as a job lot - came with the tanks !!! Just need someone to tell me what spec the oil is as we really don't have a use for that amount!

If you give them a ring they'll prob send you an oil sample bottle for free and do a test for out as they've done for me in the past!

No, it's just the ACEA rating/grading. Page 5 here:

http://www.acea.be/images/uploads/pub/070308_ACEA_sequences_2007_LD_and_HD.pdf

"A" usually refers to petrol vehicles and "B" to diesel.

Then there is SAE,API specs, blah, blah, all done deliberately to confuse as much as possible
