Later this month there is a lecture at Cranfield that could be of great interest to drivers of hybrid vehicles. It is open to non-members and I give the details below.

You are invited to a talk organised by the IMechE Luton Automobile Division at the Nissan Technology Centre, Cranfield Technology Park.

Title: Energy Vectors, Energy Storage and Conversion Systems for the Range Extended Electric Vehicle

Speaker: Nigel Taylor, Technical Specialist – Low Carbon Vehicles Research, Jaguar Land Rover

Notes: This event is open to all members and non-members of the IMechE

The presentation will look at Energy Vectors, Energy Storage and Conversion Systems for the Range Extended Electric Vehicle.

A number of Electrical Energy Storage and Conversion Systems are available ranging from Batteries, Petrol and IC Engine Generators through to Gas Turbine Generators and Fuel Cells.

Each of these has unique features and abilities that challenge the vehicle application.

This talk is organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Automobile Division Luton Centre.

A good lecture, a big audience and an interesting discussion subsequently, but I don't think I will be changing to a Jaguar hybrid anytime soon.

Did anyone else attend?

I didn't, I thought it was probably a bit too far.

One of my colleagues has a Jag, I think it is a Jaguar S-Type diesel, it's like the model that Top Gear' JC drove around Nürburgring. If his Jag is typical, it doesn't seem to be a very reliable car, either that or the dealers find lots of unnecessary and expensive repairs to do on it.
