Rear Wiper Arc?

On my Gen 2, it sweeps from the bottom in an arc, anti-clockwise, to the left.

I've always thought that the rear wiper clears the wrong half of the rear view, I would have thought that the view behind me and to the right was more important and that's the area it should have been designed to clear?

Although ideally, I would have liked to clear more of the rear view than it does but that's a separate issue.

You are right, it's not up to much. I always think those French ones that do a half moon sweep in the centre are probably the best.

More of a problem is the interior mirror which is so small.

For many years I used a panoramic clip-on one that was wonderful. On my new Gen 2 I am resisting using it. Anyone know of a better, more comprehensive mirror that could be substituted?

I've replaced my rear wiper with one a couple of inches longer, following an idea on Priuschat. The new arc is slightly beyond the glazed area at one point, but gives me an overall better wipe.

I've put a 19" blade on the rear wiper too, which makes a real difference compared with the feeble 16" fitted as standard. Nearly all of the rear screen is now cleared.

I would say not, having been emboldened by others on Priuschat. But I guess you must be prepared to accept the consequences (new motor) if you gambled wrong. Got away with it on my Gen 2 for 3 years, and moved it over to my Gen 3.

Bearing in mind that invariably the rear wiper is not needed very much when you are actually driving along I would not expect any wiper motor problems resulting from increasing the length of the blade by a couple of inches. I only really use it when moving slowly or just after being stationary or parked. The shape of the car keeps the rear screen clear when you are moving reasonably fast.
