hi all

i'm concerned that my better half's auris 2.0D is emitting blue gray smoke on start up after leaving standing for a number of hours. its still under warranty but went in for service recently and they couldn't find an issue. Any pointers / advice? its very noticeable to me and i'd like to get it sorted before extended warranty ends.

PS any indications on how much an extended toyota warranty maybe?

Have you noticed your oil level going down? Blue smoke usually is your burning oil! Is the Turbo okay? I'd take it to another dealer if you're still under warranty. The extended Toyota warranty is the best you'll get as its the same as the original one from new. Take a look on Toyota GB website and it will give you the price. This warranty (AFAIK) can only be taken out b4 the car hits 100k

yes oil level dropped. will take it back to the originating dealer but wanted some ideas to throw at them. Will look at the toyota website - thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

just by way of update the car is having engine rebuilt under warranty. was a major issue as it had drunk 2.1L of oil in 1800 miles.....gulp (literally)

indications were rough start, lumpy idle, blue smoke on startup after being left standing overnight and a choked EGR after 1800 miles as well (was cleaned out for service).....

You should be getting a new 3/4 built engine from Japan with the mod pistons and block ect!... When you get this one I'd try running it on Shell V-Power or BP Optimax fuels... These help to maintain and clean the fuel system and internal engine bits.

If the Engine is hot and switched off ,and left a while blue smoke when starting could point to faulty valve guide seals and also excessive oil consumption
