Reversing Sensors?

I'm wondering if all the 4.2's had retrofit systems as the 2005 spec on the Toyota Archives doesn't show any model having parking sensors

This is the back of our Rav which has parking sensors, we have a sensor in each corner bumper but we also have x2 sensors along the inside of the door

That number plate is so not legal!!

I had after market ones fitted to my last rav by Toyota and they looked similar to the ones in your photos paulus.

The beeper for mine is behind the left light cluster (as you face the back of the car). It's the only part of the system that is 'inside' the car so it is possible some prune installed them and left the beeper in behind the bumper as it looks fiddly to feed the cables through. That's the first thing I would look for.

In terms of volume it needs to be fairly loud as when fitted correctly the sound needs to penetrate through the plastic trim as well as any luggage you might have and still have volume to get to the front of the cabin area.

Ours has the speaker above the rear right window (not that you can hear it as they don't function when it rains)

To be honest ours sounds like beeping is coming from the gearbox and the rear of the vehicle when sat inside??

But definately from the back when i am outside.

Parking sensors are fitted as a extra [customer requirement] when the car arrives at TGB or if they are busy the dealer will fit them, they come as a kit of 4 sensors and a speaker which is fitted inside the car, it may have a adjusable volume or have a two position switch, high and low. the only extra is a cut out switch if you use a tow bar. the wiring and the componant positions differ depending on who fitted them but normally in either corner near the light units. when pushing through the wiring from the bumper to the inside some people use the pressure release flaps as it saves drilling holes ,maybe the speaker has been mounted near the flap as this would explain how it can be heard inside and outside the car as the wiring holds open the flaps.
