Hi there

I have just bought a 1994 M reg Celica 20 (I think a GT not sure) VIN is 3SFE

There are a few minor problemettes that I am hoping someone can give me some guidance. Ideally a service manual along the lines of Haynes would be great (why don't Haynes do one?). I downloaded the technical manual online but it is not what I am after - it is for a 2.2Ltr US model, but is not specific - I know it is written for mechanics but when it says check the oil level is between low and hot, if not fill it - it doesn't actually state WHERE to fill it. I need something which shows me the location of the filler - it doesn't seem to be obvious (to me)

Basically the problems I have are

1. Auto transmission fluid is low - where on earth is the filler?

2. Air inlet hose to the filter is damaged/split and I need to replace it. Where can I get a replacement hose without paying Toyota prices or alternatively I am looking at an cold air induction kit - any ideas? Where best to get one from?

3. Replacement Audio. The radio is the original Japanese which has FM from 72 - 89Khz - I cannot get a single radio station in UK. Where can I get a decent replacement without costing the earth - ideally I would like an integrated Sat Nav and CD/Radio with blue tooth and USB

4. How do I get the spark plus out - O tried this afternoon with a spark plug wrench and seemed to be turning for half an hour with no result (ie the spark plugs weren't coming out)

5. The auto box is a bit sluggish at low revs and going through 2,500 3,000 - kick down is poor. It was sitting for 4 months before I got it and when I drove the 60 miles home it seemed to loosen up a bit, but has rough spots - is this related to the air box.hose problem above

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Vince

Welcome.

3S-FE means you have the 140bhp (i believe thats how much power it makes) 2 litre engine. This car will be an imported SS-1.

The imported SS-2 had the more powerful 3S-GE which has 173bhp and is pretty much identical to the UK model called the GT.

You'll find the oil filler cap on the top of the engine on the drivers side in front of the brake master cylinder.

The auto box has a filler bolt on top of the box itself (under all the airbox etc) but if it doesnt need much topping up you could always trickle some down the dip stick spout. But it shouldnt be using oil, so there may be a leak somewhere if its very low.

Toyota part prices arent actually that expensive as people think. But there are lots of cars being broken for spares on eBay.

If you've unscrewed the sparks and they arent coming out then you need to get a better spark socket on them. It sounds like the one you have isnt grasping tightly enough.

You can get a band expander for the stereo off eBay.... but used UK headunit will cost about the same. I'd recommend you do latter as its less messing around and then everything is in english.

The auto boxes are slugglish. If its showing low oil on the dip stick then you're gonna need to find the leak and re-fil it with fresh oil. The oil usage may be caused by old oil and a simple drain and refil with Dextron 2/3 will sort it.
