hi, i have just recently bought a celica 140 vvti 2000 model. just had a few questions about maintaince.

what is the best brand engine oil for the car, spark plugs, oil filter, induction kit?

also looking for some performance gains, i have looked for strut braces and bigger brakes for the car, but i cannot seem to find any parts for the car. does anyone know a reliable place i can get parts?

and also looking for a de cat for my car but can only find a turbo decat for mr2/ celica. presuming that is not for my model.

thanks

Mobil 1 is a good oil. I use their 0W40 Edge in mine & its great.

Plugs use Denso as that's what will come from the factory or you can use Halo's if you can get the right ones.

Induction kit - Don't bother! You won't see any performance gains unless you spend big money on a decent shielded kit, even then you might only see 1-2bhp MAX. Induction kits are only good for noise! Your best option is a decent performance panel filter - Same filtration performance, but without the heatsoak!

Ok Strut braces - This depends on your budget & how much of a "Brand" snob you might be. If money isn't an issue, the its a C-One upper strut brace & TRD rear. There is a very good quality place that makes replicas of those: WWW.RT-PERFORMANCE.COM. However the cheap eBay ones will do the job just as well, as at the end of the day you are just connecting the 2 sides of the car together. If it was for a full race car, then spend the money. I've got front upper, lower & rear upper, all of which were cheap ones & they are fine.

As for brakes it depends what you want. As you have the prefacelift, you have the smaller front discs, so your options are as follows:

Uprated discs & pads (EBC Turbo Grooved & Red or Yellow stuff pads - for example)

Uprated discs, pads, braided brake lines & 5.1 brake fluid

Uprated to Facelift calipers, uprated disc for Facelift & uprated pads to match

Uprated to Facelift calipers, uprated disc for Facelift, uprated pads to match, braided lines & 5.1 fluid

Big Brake Kit - FreakyParts do good BBK, or Se7en Motorsports

Going decat is not the best option for your car, as you will lose back pressure & therefore a If you want a new cat, then get a sports cat. Why do you want to decat?

If you are thinking that you'll be able to do a few mods & get some good gains I'm afraid you won't. The best NA 140 Gen7 that hasn't had any real engine mods is only pushing 144bhp (on a dyno). Most with either a panel filter/induction kit/cat back type mods see about 137-139 on a dyno. The 140 & 190's are tuned pretty much the best they can be from the factory.

thanks for all the info. will forget about he filter as i am happy with the way tha car sounds.

as far as what u have said, for the brakes am i roght in saying you advice t upgrade to the standard brakes that come with the facelift model?

i presumed the decat will increased performance, also heard it increases mpg.

i had a honda civic previously and air filter and de cat did make a difference in performance, hoever i have beeen reading a lot that toyota do maximise this cars performance hence no need to go any further...

If you just uprate the discs & pads or discs, pads, lines & fluid you'll be fine.

When mine was running 312bhp the was the setup I was using (EBC turbo grooved, Yellow stuff pads, braided lines & 5.1 fluid), the brakes were fine and only hit their limit when a racing driver was trying to chase 400bhp Evo's at castle combe.

If you fancy upgrading to the facelift brakes then you can (fronts only). The discs go from 255 to 275, so you need the calipers. Therefore you'd need to buy the calipers. Also the facelift pads & discs normally work out cheaper as well.

Is it not better to sell your 140bhp celica then add the money that you were gonna spend on modifying it and go buy a 190bhp celica?

Sounds like your going to spend the best part of £1000 on it, surely you could upgrade to a 190bhp car for that?

Just seems like a lot to throw at a car for little gains.

You'll get the bigger brakes as standard on the 190bhp and you'll have the extra 50bhp which you'll never get from the 140bhp car unless you go forced induction.

i was originally looking for 190 t sport, but as i am 22 insurance doesnt agree with me on that, best part od 3,000 to 3,500 i get quotes esp for being in london. thats why i settled for the 140 for now.

my main issue is maintainance as im worrid i will get the death rattle, however my car is not showin signs as of yet.

also does anyone know a good place for a spoiler? as my car is black with leathers but is missing a spoiler. im looking for an original celica spoiler. no crazy stuff lol

how much will a forced induction kit cost on average too? < this i will actually do much later in the future.

For the spoiler speak to AMS or NIX on celica club, they both break celicas & are ggood prices. For a GT one, it will cost.

Force Induction will cost £4k minimum just for the kit & fitting. Then you need to add on tuning, lowering (minimum), decent tyres and brakes If you haven't upgraded by then.

Insurance will kill though!

Its crazy how insurance has changed. I had a 400bhp Supra Twin Turbo at 21 and only paid £800 fully comp! The world has gone mad!

insurance is the only thing that stopped me getting a vvtli sports 190. otherwise i cudve afforded the car.

4k is too much to spend for me atm. i had a look at the air filter the car originally has and its actually pretty good, seems like i only need a performance panel. which is what ill do.

i had a civic before and mod on that was soo easy, this car is more complicated and mods dnt make a difference.

im enjoying the car as it is standard. just want that spoiler now :D

also want to upgrade the speaker system, any good ideas?
