Just get some thats for common rail diesels and see if it makes any difference then post your opinion.

Or read this;

Car running costs Diesel fuel additives compared

fuel-additives_millers-diesel-power-sport-4-184638.jpg

Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 (500ml)* £11.99

Fuel additive's claims

  • Increases cetane by up to four numbers
  • Increases power – up to 17.5% more bhp
  • Increases mpg by up to 7%
  • Reduces exhaust emissions – 70% less smoke, 20% less carbon
  • Treats 500 litres of diesel

Findings

  • Cost per treated litre of standard diesel: £1.08
  • Extra cost per tankful: £1.44
  • Cetane: up by 3.5 numbers
  • Power, torque and fuel economy: no significant change

We say

Millers pretty much lives up to its cetane rating claims, but it offers no power or economy benefits. Some emissions fell, but not during urban use. This contrasts with a small increase in soot, but only under motorway conditions.

Is it worth it? No.

*Since our tests, Millers has announced a new product called Millers Diesel Power ECOMAX. The claims are similar, but it may have different effects on performance. Diesel Power Sport 4 is still on sale.

fuel-additives_wynns-supremium-diesel-184645.jpg

Wynn’s Supremium Diesel (250ml) £5.99

Fuel additive's claims

  • Reduces fuel consumption
  • Increases engine power
  • Reduces noxious exhaust gases by up to 20%
  • Cetane improver
  • Treats 250 litres of diesel

Findings

  • Cost per treated litre of standard diesel: £1.08
  • Extra cost per tankful: £1.44
  • Cetane: up by 2.9 numbers
  • Power, torque and fuel economy: no significant change

We say

Wynn's Supremium Diesel does improve the cetane rating and costs less than filling up with ‘premium’ diesel. But we didn’t measure any tangible benefits.

Is it worth it? No.

fuel-additives_redex-0-to-60-cetane-booster-184642.jpg

Redex 0 To 60 Cetane Booster (500ml) £9.99

Fuel additive's claims

  • Increases the cetane number of diesel fuel by up to two numbers
  • Increases fuel economy
  • Treats 50 litres of diesel

Findings

  • Cost per treated litre of standard diesel: £1.25
  • Extra cost per tankful: £11.99
  • Cetane: up by 1.2 numbers
  • Power, torque and fuel economy: no significant change

We say

Redex did boost the cetane rating and reduce carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions on the motorway. But it costs nearly £12 per tankful, and with no signs of the promised fuel economy benefits.

Is it worth it? No.

fuel-additives_pd-5-fuel-treatment-184641.jpg

PD-5 Fuel treatment (250ml) (tested in diesel) £18.50

Fuel additive's claims

  • Increases engine power (power booster)
  • Reduces fuel consumption (economiser)
  • Works with both petrol and diesel
  • Treats 1,000 litres

Findings

  • Cost per treated litre of standard diesel: £1.07
  • Extra cost per tankful: £1.11
  • Cetane: up by 1.4 numbers
  • Torque: up 1.7%
  • Power and fuel economy: no significant change

We say

PD-5 Fuel treatment is cheaper than using premium diesel, but we don’t think you’ll notice the marginal torque and cetane increase we found.

Is it worth it? Probably not.

A very good read my mate :eat::yes:

It may look complicated but it's surely just like food you need to know what is in the product.

I bought one of the premium brands in a supermarket that was on special at half-price.

I would have to get the bottle to give you the name.

This supermarket has their own branded product which is also half the price of the brand name products on a daily basis.

To give you a laugh...

Last year I bought a bottle of injector fuel cleaner and put half of it in my fuel tank , as prescribed.

I put the half empty bottle in the cubby hole in the boot of the verso where the jack is stored.

Some days later I got the whiff o diesel and then it got worse - I spent ages looking for a fuel leak under the car.

Eventually found the bottle it had fell over and leaked and did it pong!

If you bought it from a super market wouldn't it be nice to give people the "Heads up" on a half price deal? Some might wanna try it and others not!... We'll wait while you go fetch it and give us the name of the stuff and the super market chain that you bought it from!...

Tesco?

I think there are some near the Northern shores of France but down South I have never seen or heard of one.

I bought the own product in Auchan.

Interestingly engine oil is much cheaper in France !

I wa lucky as I bought a Volve T5 estate new from a mate that worked at Volvo UK and he got me a years free travel on Brit ferries! We when to France every weekend to our holiday home! As an old timer once reminded me..........It's only the profit that makes it dear ;)

I have tried a number of fuel injection cleaners in the past (most of the ones tested on page 2) and although Millers did seem to make the engine run smoother, I never noticed any improvement elsewhere over a long period of time.

BG244 however did wonders for my Mondeo ST TDCI when I had it. Those engines are prone to injector failure and have problems starting in cold conditions, but BG244 did help with cold starts and removed the embarrassing white smoke on start up.

It's the only one I will buy for my car, but the one I really struggle to justify buying due to the £24 price tag.

At the end of the day, there are people who swear by them, and people who regard them as a placebo/snake oil. These are opinions from different people in different parts of the world driving different cars in a different manner in different weather and traffic conditions.

I swear by Shell fuel, and have seen MPG improvements and reduced smoke on all of my cars when using it, and will continue to avoid supermarket fuels regardless of the cheaper price.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell me about how all fuel is the same and how wrong I am in my own opinion and findings.

Eh up lads...

Well after a good nights sleep I am now back to this thread. I think me and Bob haven't quite seen eye to eye on this subject!... But at the end of the day its a personal choice if you want to use a fuel additive or not! But if someone is going to come on a forum and say there is a half price offer @ where ever and wont tell you where that is or what the stuff is I get a bit p!ssed off tbh!... The whole idea of a forum is to share info and to give help where you can!... So I did say some things that I have now deleted in the respect of other members...

My thinking is if you want to get ****** you buy some booze you don`t need to know whats in it just being secure in the knowledge it`ll do the job. :drunk:

Lmao!... I might have a go at doing that tonight as its a day off for me and Mrs M tomorrow :drunk::eat::wub: :) :afro::yes:

Handy to know, but unless I can make a £20+ saving on my next tankful by using it, I still find it hard to swallow £75 for a full tank, and adding £20 on top.

I'll stick to decent fuel for now.

I`m not disputing that for a second, only indicating its £19 at present Davey.

It doesn`t have to be used immediately you know. :D

With an MOT due in 2 weeks, 2 rear tyres due pretty soon and a problem with the rear brakes sticking and needing new pads, I won't be buying anything else for the car for a while.

As good as it is, I can't justify it as i'm losing interest in the car, and the brand.

I tipped a tin of the BG in the Avensis and it did nothing, there are 2 ways to look at this, either it doesnt work or the car is working correctly. As its only got 14k on the clock i would go with the latter.

Now if it had 60k on the original injectors it would be interesting to see if there was a difference.
