2.2 Dcat (Sad Story Of An 05/06 Model)

Advice and pointers much appreciated to see if there can be a happy ending :)

12 months ago my good old 05/06 Toyota Verso 2.2 started having serious problems: (Note it does have about 180k (km) on the clock currently)

1) the famous trio of Lights

VSC, TRC, Engine

2) Smoking at the back under load

Taken to MR T and after a few s/w upgrades and then eventually haggling to clean the Cat/EGR instead of original diagnosis from fault code of Cat Failure ...all was good (Normal driving is about 1000km per week) and having had a MOT and regular services in between.

Till December 2011...

Off we go again discussion with Mr T , Injectors OK - yes, but cleaned free of charge

Okay car seems to be fine , not smoking at the back .. I seem to be driving with one eye fixed at the back for smoke detection :)

So all was well and good to last night

Smell of fuel in cabin

Smoking at the back under load

and to top it all after filling the car and driving just 10 metres - the now infamous lights (VSC, TRC, engine)

However, no limp mode( or loss of power was evident) asides from the clouds of smoke behind me

Noooooooooooo!

Off to local Mr T first this morning and what a surprise its Cat Failure and more to the shock was the price quoted inc labour 3K (euros) Yes that's right ! error code I think was PO2002

Any tips to get the price down from this figure

- does Toyota actually know of this problem to in a TSB or other dealer update.

- sell up

- warranty or goodwill

Many thanks

Have you got a copy of the TSB? How many miles on the clock?

I dont have a copy of a TSB :(

But roughly in miles 117,000

Is it the DPF rather than the cat?

Where are you?

In Germany for now car was purchased here... although I suspect it is the dpf at that price ??

Sounds like the DPF price, presumably the car is a T180?

They do fail, the earlier cars seems to have the most issues. The TSB references the DPF if the needs engine needs replacing and that killed it in the process, if the engine is fine then you dont have a lot of options. The DPF cant be bypassed as far as i know, so it must be purchased from Mr T.

As its done a lot of miles its not likely to be a goodwill case, doesnt hurt to ask though. Get rid or pay up might be the only choice.

Yes the model in question is equivalent to the T180

Thanks for your insight and feedback ...looks like I may have to pay up on this one, I hope there is warranty on the parts again if they go 'T*ts Up'. That Prius is looking inviting now :D for fuel saving.

As my mate has said I'd see what Toyota would offer you! Hope it works out in your favor pal :-)

Cheers missus (her German is way better than mine) was on the phone to Mr T (HQ) and T-Dealer lets see if there can be any 'goodwill' as such

Thanks for responding so quickly :D

I think you will get 12mths on a new DPF, its only the D-Cats that have DPF's. Our Verso doesnt have one.

The DPF can be bypassed if you go to a diesel specialist, they will remove it and remap the ECU. cost will be no way as much as 3k, obviously you'll have Ni warranty to fall back on with Mr T, bur if your verso has got 180k, what fo you expect.

If you know a firm who can please name them.

I'd love to know who has cracked it!... :boat::driving::g: :g:

Try this link: http://www.sinspeed....problem-solved/

Ye with little faith - tut tut.

Let me know how you get on.

Lol!... Its out to do with faith mate! My good forum mate (Daveyonthemove) has contacted companies like this in the past who have explained that they can crack the Denso units!!!!! So go get it done your self and post the pics and report and bill foe the work on this site pal...

Yep, until somebody real comes on here and says they have had it done, i dont believe the generic text of that web page.

Its not a good start when the picture's are of an E12 Corolla Verso  and it says this:

"When the DPF gets blocked on the Toyota T180 (both 2.0litre and 2.2litre D-4D engines)" can i have a 2.0 D4D DPF equipped T180 please.

To add substance to the DPF/Toyota removal and remap, I have indeed contacted sinspeed a few months ago.

I did receive a reply that was practically a cut and paste from their website, and was filled out with claims about how good they were etc etc.

I have not found a single tuning company on the entire net who can remap any Toyota ECU, except for the 1.4 variant.

The 1.4 ecu is a Bosch (I believe) whereas the rest of the line up have a heavily encrypted Denso, and not one of the big name companies can offer any form of power remap. If sinspeed could manage to decrypt the ECU to offer a DPF bypass, why can't they offer a remap? There are thousands of people wanting a remap for these engines, and nobody can do it, so that says a lot about how tricky it is to alter anything to do with the ECU.

Until somebody comes on this forum with a genuine post, believable proof (receipts, photos of before and after, and a reputation of genuine posts on this or other forums) I remain sceptical, and i'm not about to part with £600+ to a company without a testimonial page.

Hi there again

Well good news ....

After 10 days haggling with Toyota the 3k (euro) bill came down to 400 ! Brand new DPF and I had a car from them also to take care of my commute.

I think that’s a good result and excellent service from my local Mr T

Cheers

Another positive outcome

I have a 2.2D4D T3 Verso first registered Jan. 2008 full Toyota service history. Reported slight problem with starting-would start but not rev for a couple of seconds followed by cloud of smoke. Told blocked EGR and paid a daft amount of money to have it cleaned. No difference! 2000 miles later the trio of lights came on and limped to the dealers the following day. They are currently replacing the engine! For free and with a courtesy car as well. apparently the warranty has been extended to five years as their is an inherent problem.

Have a look in the Rav section of the forum there are many threads on the same subject

Why don't you try a Lexus specialist for Toyota remaps, same engines in some models

These do Dcat removals and ecu remaps.

http://evolutionchip..._Remapping.html

Or get on the Lexus forums, more clued up then on here.... :D
