Hi All

I have now covered 4000 miles in my nearly new Avensis and have started to experence an irritating and dissapointing problems which infrequently occurs. These are:

1) Insert key, turn on, ignition lights turn on fine, wait for glow plugs and then turn to starter position and the starter motor doesn't even turn over. If I take the key out and retry it works!!

2) Hates starting in colder weather. Hates it at -1 and -4 degrees celcius which really isn't that bad is it? Takes a lot to turn over and run.

3) Occasionally I go to start the car go to the car and try to start, it turns over, but takes a good few seconds to catch. This is at normal temperatures.

The car is in the dealers who are struggling to find possible sources.

Have any of you expeirenced this; have any ideas; or is it just a D4-D thing?

Thanks

No way is that right, it should be starting straight away everytime, get it to the dealer.

So should I ignore the glow plugs and jsut go for it? What probs do you get if you have waited?

No issues if i wait for the coil, if you let it go out and dont restart quick enough the pre heating will be cooling so it will be harder to start.

Dont ignore the coil.

Could this be a problem with the transponder in the key? The reason why I say that is the 1st time nothing! and then the 2nd time it works? :g:

I'd be looking at the glow plugs 1st! Hows the Battery?

I did wonder about the key - so may try the spare when I get the car back and see how it goes. I've had three non starts in the last 10 journeys, and 2 or three long turn overs.

On the transponder thing I do note that the red security light does stop flashing so have assumed that the immbiliers and transponded have paired up?

Will let you know how it goes.
