:( 2006 plate pre-face lift

today after hearing a strange whistling sound for a few minutes i drove to fill the car up

Checked around the car and under the bonnet and nothing i could see.

Drove off and the car simply wasnt picking any speed nor was the power transferring itself. On the uphill section it just came to a snail pace.

Taken it to the garage now and they checked the valves for any blockages (this was a section at the front of the engine)

there was alot of black oily powdered residue which they cleared out

Starting it up again there it was the same to which the mechanic as said its the Turbo.

How much do they cost as a part?? or if it was to be fitted at a dealership how much would it cost? where would i find the part number for the turbo?

Many thanks :(

Mani

Would I be able to see that? if so where would it be?

the mechanic did say the pressure wasnt building up.

sorry to be such a newbie!

also is there a vast risk with a used/refurb part as opposed to a brand new dealer fitted one?

Its probably about £1200ish for a turbo, supplied and fitted, i would guess based on other cars i have dealth with. However at a main Mr T it could be more. Like any used parts they will be cheaper but you get what you pay for, i would be happy with reconditioned but not used.

The whistle is a tell tale turbo failure sign. With the engine running put your hands near the large air pipes and see if you can feel a serious draft, dont put your hand near any moving parts! I doubt this is the issue though based on the whistle.

How many miles has the car done?
