17 Inch Rims

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I would like some suggestions about 17 inch rims on my 07 Auris. Right now I have a 1.4 D-4D T2 5Dr Auris with 15 inch factory rims. I was wondering if changing to 17 inch rims would effect handling , real mileage done on the clock , speedometer and performance on the car.

Any help is very much appreciated .

Thanks

Gilbert

not really mate you might feel bumps a wee bit more but thats all and no real change to the speedo as long as you use 215 /45/17 tyres

The car will go a little slower (bigger wheels, more power needed to drive them), put more strain on the axles and possibly increase breaking distance depending on the speed your going but all this will be marginal difference. It will handle alot better round corners and as "ormi" said you will feel bumps a little bit more so take it slow over speed bumps, near potholes etc. It will also increase the height of the car by 2 inches so consider lowering springs and remember to tell your insurance as bigger wheels will invalidate your policy!

All this i found out from experience!

. It will also increase the height of the car by 2 inches

if you fit the wheels with tyres of equivalent rolling radius it will be exactly the same height as before ...

(taller wheels but less tall tyres)

I have installed 18" rims with 225/40/zr18 tyres and definetley needs lowering springs because it looks like a Shovel. Still considering which springs to use because I only found ones which lower the car 30mm all round and it doesn't seem much.

You should go for coilovers japanbeast, otherwise the lowering won't be too big. 35mm is the maximum you get with most springs.
