Gearbox Noise?

Hello All,

New today to the forum, I am personally a Land Rover Series fanatic but the boss (the wife!) like's Toyota's.

We have just recently bought a Corolla Verso 1.8 vvti petrol (02)off a friend of ours. It is a good looking car, low milage and well maintained. I have just had a full service and I asked the mechanic to look into a noise comimg from the front end.

He reported that it is the gearbox making this noise and early Verso's were prone to it! The oil level is good on the box, is the above true? Will the gearbox fail shortly, the noise is not that bad?

If so what is the best way to remedy this? gearbox out to a specialist? what type of cost?

Live in Kent.

Any advice welcome

Thanks

John...

Gear box bearings go in them all the time . Buy some after market bearings for £55 and get a good mechanic to fit them , I've taken my verso to main dealer twice for same repair . Less than £200 should see you right , it's only 2 hours work to fit them . Don't bother paying dealer prices as they only stand over the parts for 12 months ( mine lasted 18 months !!) . Best of luck . JH .
