Oil Level High

Hello again

I recently got a 2007 2.2 D4d T4 hatch from local main dealer.

The oil level on the dipstick is a fair bit above max. Should I do anything about it?

Thanks

Jim

Take it back to the dealer and point it out. Oil can't 'appear' from nowhere. There could be a problem with the head gasket. Coolant may be seeping into the oil and raising the level. Has the coolant level in the overflow changed? If it's fallen don't add any fluid until the dealer has been shown it.

I'd also be tempted to take some photos of the level on the dipstick as evidence.

Look on the bright side it may just be overfilled slightly.

Take it back to the dealer to check.

even if it is just overfilled, past a certain point this will cause problems.

If the fast moving parts (crank/rods) splash through deep oil in the sump the oil goes frothy and this aerated oil foam is useless for lubricating. It also causes a drag on the crank which does not help at all

This phenomenon is called windage and normally is prevented by desgin of the sump and oil tray (in a wet sump car). But if you really overfill a lot the oil gets past all the preventative design fetaures and is whisked up by the engine.

At the least I'd want them to drain it, refill correctly and then you should monitor it every 100 miles.

Thank you all for your informative replies. I'll take it to dealer to have a look. After I've photod the dipstick.

They might think it was me as I bought it in September.
