Second Hand Auris Hsd

Hey,

Ive just upgraded my mark1 phase2 toyota yaris colour collection that ive had since new,i really liked the car and am now sold on the toyota reliability as its been perfect for 7 odd years nothing went wrong.

so i stuck with toyota and have now bought a year old auris HSD,wasnt really looking for a change of car but saw this for sale and really liked it as soon as i saw it ( in pearl white) and took it for a drive.

ive only had it a few days but so far couldnt be happier, smooth cvt gears, never had an auto , it feels strange but great to use and a lot of great features compared with the yaris anyway, cant fault it so far.

but since ive had it ive had a lot of friends and workmates say ohh not one of those,a lot to go wrong there,to much reliance on electric and computers for me,that ll be trouble in a few years.

I mean i know as well as anyone i suppose in theory the more stuff it has your always going to have more potential problems,no car is indestructable its made of a lot of parts.

just wondered is what there saying anything to worry about or are they just trying to take the shine off my new car, whats anyones elses experience so far.

i suppose only time will tell, but at the minute best car ive ever had ,im sure to report any problems as they happen,if they ever happen?

to be continued..........

Without boring myself looking for the links I'll tell you that the hybrid system is actually simpler than a normal car so there is less to go wrong. Something along the lines of there being only 100 parts compared to 700 in a traditional automatic box. Also, remember that all cars are driven by computer these days, all have complicated emission systems and bare no resemblance to the simple cars of the 1970's.

If you're still not convinced then watch the following; (bare in mind that US gallons are smaller than ours so 40 mpg US is about 50 mpg UK etc)

Is the Prius/Auris hsd system perfect? No. Is it reliable? Well when was the last car you heard of with over 600,000 miles on the clock?

Tell your mates that we live in the 21st century and that the Toyota HSD is well proven technology.

Don't worry about it they are just jealous.

They're only jealous that they didn't have the sense to buy one!

Take them for a drive in it, sit back and see how many get a hybrid within 3 months :)

Ignore them and enjoy your HSD. I've had mine 15 months and still loving it. And in any case, you have the balance of the five and eight year warranties but I suspect you won't need to call on them much.

Your mates need educating. My son has done 70,000 miles+ in his Gen 2 Prius on mountain roads in Europe and on business in the UK. Nothing has gone wrong he recently had the brake pads changed. The Auris is a high tech reliable car. Your mates are living in the past.

Sounds like your mates are jealous, or are trying to wind you up, or believe everything on top gear. Toyota Hybrid tech has been around for over 10 years and is very reliable. There are still 10 year old 1st gen prii on the road. There are also many high mileage prii too. Have a look over on the Prius Chat forums.

Enjoy your new car, and the zero pounds road tax, and fewer trips to the petrol station, and London congestion charge exemption, and stress free driving.

thanks for all the replys on this, everybody seems to really like there hybrid cars as i do mine i think its awesome, still cant get over how smooth the gear change is,i didnt know it was a different auto system before i drove it i was expecting the back in the seat jolt then lerch forward changes of an regular auto as has a few people ive now given a run in it to,they are beginning to see things a bit different.Free tax also seems to big a big winner as well (free tax mmmmm)

ive also had the its a bit faster than i thought and smoother and quieter, people hear the hybrid electic and go straight for the milk float similarity,i think they just dont know things have changed so much.

one guy at work runs a morris minor as a daily car so maybe im really trying to convert the wrong crowd with this one.

as for reliability its seems it shouldnt be to painful to own, even i didnt know some of the prius had done over 600,000 by now, they should have ironed out a lot of the creases by now,and as its says in another post i still the warranty to fall back on,but id rather not have to use it really.

heres hoping for many miles of smooth motoring

thanks phil

It is a good headline grabber but the real saving is in the cost of fuel (although it does depend on your annual miileage). I save around £2000 a year on fuel compared to my previous car (an Astra).

Best of luck with the new car

I can see both sides of the argument on the one hand modern cars

are getting more complicated. Modern turbodiesels are landing their owners with big bills.

This is where your friends are coming from with their comments for what its worth i cant see me spending big money on a new modern car. Well at least not on a turbo diesel or one of these new small turbo petrols.

But the Prius seems excellent for reliability and owners tend to be happy. Id say part of the reason for your friends comments too is that they dont understand how hybrids work.

I like the Prius in the context of modern cars in general and the Auris Hybrid is the best Auris you can buy.

Hard for me personally to justify when an older VW 1.9 TDi like a B5

Passat will do 50 mpg without much effort.

But a lot of people wouldnt be happy with older high mileage cars for them the Auris and Prius hybrids are as good as they come imo

Red diesel
