Newbie To Avensis

Hello Everyone, I was wondering if you can help me, please I traded my D4-d tspirit previa on an 06 with 56k on for an avensis estate tr, sept 2010 with 10k on from main dealer. I only do between 12k and 16k a year but drive the car quite hard. i only do short distances normally. please be honest am i going to regret my choice with regard to the valve issue and head gasket etc. perhaps i should have gone for petrol but thought diesel were solid. i like the car but appreciate honest answers i do have a remainder of the warrenty for about 3 and ahalf years was my previa engine exposed to the same problems

hi,

the TSB for the Avensis only covers those produced up to February 2009 & iirc we haven't seen anybody with a car later than that on the forum with a head gasket problem.

Hopefully it was resolved by the time that your car was made.

The TSB only mentions Auris, Avensis, Verso & RAV

Hi spoke to servicing department today and said I would trade my new car for petrol knowing I would loose loads of money. They replied that I shouldn't as I have the new shape no reported problems with that style yet. And that the head gasket is causing the erg valve to become clogged so not two separate problems. Just keep an eye on temp gauge any slight rise from middle bring it in. I have to say my confidence not fully restored but I do feel very much for everyone else who has been affected and half of me is waiting for when

which agrees with my earlier answer.

If you are only doing short trips during which the engine doesn't fully warm up (diesels take longer) you won't achieve great mpg.

. And that the head gasket is causing the erg valve to become clogged so not two separate problems.

I would have said that it was the EGR valve causing the head problem but the 2 are certainly linked - again, not news ;)

Sorry to go on but I looked at my engine nUmber which says I'm a 1ad5553334 on an 2010 I take it the tsbnumber dictates a later engine than the ones which are covered in the released warranty by the head office because I was expecting to see a 2ad at least

Hi sorry got confused thought the 2ad engines were the reformatted and up to date so I still maybe ok then. Does any one have any data just out of curiosity how Many cars are affected or is that impossible to gather Chris

only people that will know are Toyota (both in terms of nos. of possibly affected engines produced & reported actually affected engines so far) & they aren't telling ...

As I said the TSB only covers up to Feb 2009 production for Avensis & we haven't seen any reports of later cars with the problem.

This is a crazy thread, the new car has 3.5 yrs of Manufacturers warranty and isn't even affected!

All cars on the TSB are NOT affected by the issues as far as i can gather.
