Hi all, I'm looking for a good 'iPhone 4 holder' for my 54 plate (4.2) XT4. I am after one of those that slots behind and is held in by the trim panels? Any suggestions folks?

TIA, Steve

PS: Sorry if its been covered before only I could'nt find much on the search!

Hi Steve,

We have these in both our RAV's to mount the Tom-Tom & my i-Pod. First class products although a bit pricey.

I used both the Dashmount and the Brodit.

Both expensive for what you actually get (£25 for a bracket!!) but .... they do the job, and if you want a bracket, you want a bracket.

FWIW, I much preferred the Dashmount - found it much more flexible in its use and you can add on near enough any gadget-specific cradle onto it with a couple of ty-wraps - so when it is time to replace the iPhone 4 with an iPhone 5, you just need to get holder for a couple of quid and swap it over, rather then needing to by a complete new bracket.

Dashmount for the bracket and brodit for the holder. Usually cheaper on eBay, but custom Metalwork is more than the price of the raw materials.

Thanks all for your help, I have chosen the 'dashmount' bracket and the 'Brodit' holder, both purchased from dashmount.co.uk for a cost of about £38 all in, so not too bad!

Thanks again.....Steve

Word of advice from someone who has been there .... When you remove the silver trim plate and then start to undo one of the radio fixing bolts to secure the dashmount, use either a strong magnetic bit to undo the bolt or get some blu-tack to make it stick to the bit, otherwise the risk of the bolt heading south and disappearing for ever is about 90%

Cheers Dave, I will remember that one!

Here's my dashmount with a magnet on it. Each phone has two slivers of metal between Battery and caseworks. Holds very well over bumps etc.

Nice one Bob! Looking at your photo's confirms for me that I have purchased the best bracket for my 4.2, the fella from 'dashmount' told me that he will send the 'fixings' FOC for the iPhone 4 Brodit holder!

Going to send them to me next week as they have run out of stock!!

Just for info, the Brodit mounting for the RAV4.2 goes on the other side of the radio for RHD cars and attaches by clipping over the radio trim on the left and the silver trim plate on the right (plus tape to keep in place)

Here is my RAV4.2 with the Brodit mount supporting a TomTom.....

I much preferred the dashmount though :)

Hi David, It does look good that Brodit but I want it on the other side of the radio so I chose the angled dashmount! A bit off topic but I see on your photo that your 4.2 has an outside temp readout on the display! I have got a 54 plate (4.2) D4D XT4, the factory radio looks the same as yours with trip computer...etc but I have never seen the outside temp display? Have you had this fitted extra or is there a way I could access this feature on my unit?

TIA, Steve

Dashmount much better :) What that photo doesn't show is the dashmount also fitted on the left already for the phone ;)

Ref temp - Definitely standard feature (on the 58812 head unit anyway). Maybe someone with a 4.2 can answer the "how to show" question better , but I suspect going from memory that it may be visible when you cycle through the display via the DISP button? or with radio off?

Cheers Dave for getting back with an answer about the 'temp display', I will have a play tomorrow with it!

Sorry! What an idiot, just been out to the car and there it was 'OUTSIDE TEMP' in BIG white letters written on a BIG button on the climate control panel! It does not show on the radio display but in a small illuminated window digi display that shows fan speed, internal temp...etc! Sometimes I find it hard to believe that I was a top sniper and instructor in the British Army for many years!!

My excuse: Only had the car for 4 months!!! naaaaah... don't think that will wash!
