Alternator

any one had any probs with alternator on gs vvt-1 1.8 petrol,i had one few month back with battey light comeing on dash,so went out and got 2nd hand alternator when i stuck if back on car had same prob battey light on,phone place were i got if from send it was tested and working,try your fuses and relays,so i pushed all them in still same,drove about 10yards light went off volts was showing 14+ ,with meter,now its back again,looked at all fuses again and pushed relays in again no joy,volts are only showing 12+,,any ideas got my old one to stick back on and try,,

Where did you test the volatge at the Battery or the back of the alternator? Also did you rev the engine to around 3,000 rprm to see if volatge improved?

just on battey mate,,never reved it up just on tic over,,last time i did rev it up and it was running at 14v+,,how do you check alternator side,?

I read read somewhere that the main cable from alt corroded at the lug part where the cable goes in. They soldered on a new terminal lug. Corrosion was inside lug and not visiable. resistance tests ok on meter but under load the cable could not supply the full current needed to the batt.

Sounds similar to your problem.
