It was pinned and was removed from the forum. In my opinion it was the right thing to do. You cannot have an established Seller like Kingo who pays for his space on the Forum, being undermined by a link to non-paying Seller, that is simply not a level playing field. The Mods got it spot on.

I think it was removed, like any other commercial link would and should be, if they are not paying for it

It is one thing to recommend a company, but something completely different to post up all the contact details/ web / phone et al

The OP broke the rules and it was removed, simple as!

If the post had have been critical of the company would it also have been removed??

If it had all the links / contacts then I would say yes. it's the contacts / linking that breaks the rules

I was more concerned that the forum could be accused of publishing libel.

I suspect there are many libelous remarks on here. Some people often vent their anger about a dealer or where something is not covered by warranty

When a thread gets out of hand it is often locked, but not too many get deleted. Mods normally remove the links and it is left open

There is a regular poster on here with several hundred posts that for a long time had spam links in his signature. I reported the culprit and his spam links were removed, he still posts nonsense, but hasnt realised yet his links have been removed, what a time waster :D:

There only Libel if not true I belive other wise the Toyota police would be knocking at my door.......so don't tell lies is my moto.

If these 3rd party suppliers were rubbish and sold crap....they would not exsist....but they seem to flourish...

Why are dealer parts so expensive......I don't see any better quality in them compared to 3rd parts.....there are some rubbish ones don't get me wrong.

4.2 oil filter for d4d

When deleting such posts it may have been prudent to remind all members which aspect of the forum rules apply. A written reference or link would help. Hopefully that would help clarify the situation and demonstrate the need to create a level playing filed.

In my opinion it wouild seem the orignal poster innocently gave information in the hope of assisting others and apart from deleting the post could it not have been modified to give less information.

I live in the town that was mentioned. The funny thing is that my nearest Mr T dealer is on the same road just a bit further away from the centre from the address given!

People are libelled every day, it costs an absolute fortune to take somebody to court for libel, but it does happen

There are thouands of 3rd party parts suppliers for one reason, they are in business to make a profit, nothing wrong with that.

I don't set Toyota's pricing policy and neither do the dealers, you better take it up with Toyota, you have the backing of Toyota if your genuine filter goes wrong. We had a vehicle in here a while back that had seized up, it had a non genuine (respected brand) oil filter on it that split and let all the oil go, that customer is now trying to take legal action and he has no car to use, if it had been a genuine filter, things would be a lot different. You don't SEE the difference Jedi, because there usually isnt anything to see, but open up a genuine filter and see the difference inside, you will be amazed

Kingo

Advertising and Soliciting

We have very strict rules about advertising on our message-boards.

Paid members may advertise their personal property for sale in the "For Sale" section of the forum. All adverts will be moved to the "For Sale Archive" section after three months (or sooner if the item is sold and the thread has been updated). Authorised Traders may advertise their products and / or services in their allocated section(s) of the message-boards. Authorised Traders must follow Trading terms and conditions.

All unauthorised advertising or soliciting will be removed without explanation and without notice. This includes, but is not limited to;

* directing members to external car club websites.

* directing members to external websites.

* advertising in signatures.

* using a thread to indirectly advertise or praise a product (unless the post is a personal recommendation based on personal use).

* placing commercial hyperlinks over pictures.

* posting of referral, affiliate or any commission generating links.

Persistent unauthorised advertising or soliciting may result in a removal of your membership of TOC, on either a permanent or temporary basis

The TOC moderation team may at its absolute discretion, remove or edit any post, signature or profile that it interprets to be unauthorised advertising or soliciting, with or without notice or explanation. It was bought from Wakefield and the avatar shows it before I picked it up on Sept 1st 2002. Pity they removed the starsky and hutch stripe! I'm originally from over the pennines (Blackpool) . The Wakey garage has moved since then , I have had it serviced at Huddersfield in the past. A bit OT but as for that ferry to the IOM , never again! I've had a genuine Toyota oil filter split in the past.

I think that bit sums it up, you don't often see a post removed but in this case it was, as the mods are enforcing the rules

The other thing to remember is that the car manufacturer, or their supplier will have done all the R&D and design work, worked out the specification, created the tooling and manufacturing line for the parts etc, etc. This is phenomenally expensive and takes a lot of time.

Third party or pattern parts are simply copies that often use inferior materials and quality control. That's how they keep the price down.

Compare branded cereals with supermarket 'own brand'. These are often made in the same factory but you can bet that something is left out of the supermarket version. They will look the same, as Kingo says, but they won't be the same and certainly won't taste the same.

Some companies will produce improved parts but these are often more expensive than originals [ though early 4.3 brake pads are a classic exception to that]

In my experience usually, though not always, you get what you pay for.

Ultimately it comes down to personal judgement and depth of pocket.........

Don`t you just hate it when you type out a long reply and your phone Battery dies with no warning!!!!!!! :ffs:

and its a genuine manufacturer one.

anyway.........................

Kingo

O but I do Mr Parts of Kings.......I didnt just look at the outside of the tin.......I looked inside the actual filter, at how it was made and the rubber seals inside it etc. I know I cant see every thing ,but in my opinion I saw no quality difference between the Toyota one and The Bosch one..............I would say this wouldnt I :P ..............But the Bosch one actually looked better made to me.

And at 3x less that a Toyota one it was a no brainer for me. I know its not your fault and its nothing personal against you, but you are the face of the dealership here, So I put my questions to you. :)

PMB mentioned he had a Toyota oil filter split...............can I ask where it split?

I also had one split Genuine Toyota oil filter for my Rav............It split where the rim mates onto the engine,,,,,,the rim had come away from the black housing.

This only became apparant after around 2K miles when I noticed a drip on the driveway...........................I just put this down to me overtightening it, and thought nothing of the quality......Thought it was my fault????

So went and bought a Bosch one.................Had to drop some expensive Mobile 1 0w/40 Fully synth oil too :crybaby:

ATE use to make all the braking components for the VW range Discs, Calipers, ABS units and more...............

These same VW parts were available at Eurocarparts but without the VW and Audi logo stamped onto them....at a lower price.........Not sure if they still sell ATE stuff but the parts were quality.

Can't really remember due to health issues at the time but it was a pinhole on the side or the bottom so the nice AA man (the toyota club scheme) looked at it and went away for a new filter and fixed it on my drive for about £12 which I thought was excellent value including an oil top up. At the time I wasn't able to clamber underneath and change it myself.

It's good to see the rules pertaing to advertising or external links posted up as a reminder to all members.

I take it the links within the rules comply with the rules and moderators wishes.
