Rav 4.3 Diesel As A Tow Car?

For a start, even a modest load at the back end (eg a very full shopping load, or 2 adults) brings the rear end down on the springs an appalling amount, severely compromising rear ground clearance. Self-levelling it isn't!

Hi Chris,

There must be something amiss with your suspension. We've loaded our 4.2 up with the kids, dogs, roof box & enough kit for two weeks away on more occasions than I care to remember & we've never had an issue with the rear suspension. The car has always coped perfectly.

Jim

Must agree with Oor Jamesy, who drinks cups of wee monkeys with his gloves on instead of cups of tea.....what occurs with your suspensionisers, sir.....?

big Kev

"wee monkeys"?!? I'm disappointed in you BK, don't you know a Coquerel's Sifaka when you see one???

I see it's from that insane place where everybody has converted their cars to run on LPG, Jim.....MADAGASCAR (Copyright as of noo.....!!)

Le mur I see it, le mur it just looks like a monkey...subtle wan with Francais undertones, oui....?

Still begs the question....has it been misbehaving, so that big hand is gonnae hit it a slap....? Looks like Anchorman halfway through an oil change....."anybody see where ma wee oil drain bucket went?"

Big Kev :fox:

Well a few months ago i would have agreed with the negative comments about caravans, and as a former HGV driver i have done more than my share of holding faster traffic up, but thats because the speed limits for such vehicles are less than private cars. not my fault,

Now i have bought a caravan because, I have a dog, and lots of hotels, self catering cottages will not accept pets, I would love to live somewhere with a view, i cannot afford that so i tow my van to the view and pretend i live there for a few days, I can use my van for accomodation when visiting events, like christmas at chatsworth, or even Henley regatta, I can watch telly in bed, get up for brekkie when i feel like it not when someone else decides its time, I know who has slept in the bed before me (no-one) and i can change my location whenever i wish, I have flat screen telly, central heating, fridge, freezer, microwave, shower, MP3 player, surround sound, and yes a toilet that needs emptying every few days, but thats no different than a lot of rural locations that rely on septic tanks, I am not totally sold, but so far its OK with me  Stew

Stew, welcome to the club.We got our Sterling Europa 2 berth last year & have had great trips out, mainly around our local areas,Shropshire & Herefordshire.Heading off to Holmefirth in March, now that we are a bit more used to the towing.Being a 2 berth makes it a lot more economical & easier to tow.Had a motor mover fitted, found trying to get into position on one or two sites, especially on gravel,a real pain.Getting too old for all this man handling.Joined the Caravan Club, but not really used their facilities yet, maybe this year. One thing that I was advised on,was to get a torque wrench & regularly check the vans wheel nuts for tightness.Certainly before every trip, then after about 20 miles of the journey.Maybe see you out & about.
