Auris Trd Supercharged

Hi Guys,

There is an Auris 1.6 supercharged available here in South Africa: http://www.toyota.co...icleModelId=206

Its basically the 97kw/160Nm motor uprated to 132Kw/203Nm

0-100km/hr in 8.74 sec (will be better at the coast as the test was done at the reef)

top speed - 220km/hr limited

Its not the hottest hatch out there, but something for the fans at least

The reason for the 'warm' 0-100 sprint is the 2nd gear! Its too long, drops revs to 4100rpm and boost comes in after 5000rpm, but once it gets going, its very strong.

Handling courtesy of the TRD Sportivo suspension

Please forgive the language as this wasn't typed by myself!

Car was test driven by this person (who hates Toyota btw) and he had this to say:

(I dont agree on his opinion on the looks of a car as he drives a Nissan Juke icon_biggrin.gif ) But he makes sense in what he is saying.

"Drove one this morning. Yes its not all that fast. Shoved its bland little nose under a Audi A1's a_s, and I could hang on, albeit just.

HOWEVER, it does go like the clappers up top. Once we got to the higher gears, it comfortably streaked away from said Audi. At around double 100kmh... its a responsive car. Just wants to go. And that I like.

We as a modern generation, got mindf*d by the turbocharger. All hot hatches today, are fast. As a Juke owner, I can tell you categorically, that there is nowhere in the revrange where the TRD will stay with it. Over 200...... I will leave it alone though. There is just a set of legs that comes from nowhere.

So, lets get the ka--k bits out the way. Its f*g ugly. Yes, a Juke isnt pretty, but its interesting to look at, even if its just for a laugh. This thing, the Auris, is plain and simple so bland, that its gigantically f*g pukeworthy. There is not a single angle on the thing that will excite a border collie. And those come excited from the womb. The suspension drop makes the wheels look too small, and jayzuz, couldnt they turn spacers or something?

Bland, bland bland.....

Right, it starts up and sounds like a ummmm....Auris. You pull off and it sounds like a Auris, you mash the pedal and it sounds like an Auris.

Right, so why cant I for the life of me LOL at it? Simple really. Because I havent had this much fun chucking a car around since the Delta Integrale. Yes, the motor can do with about 30 or so killerwatts extra, but, the throttle response is that of a highly tuned 4...WHAM and its there. It does get aural when things start to happen. Raunchy even. It made me feel like the way I felt when I first drove a Twincam RSI as a laaitie. I love the gearchange, and it stops really really well.

Point to point, I am going to suggest that a GTI wont live with it. Its that good. Around a track, most hot hatches wont know which way it went.

Will I swop the Juke. No. Will I buy this at the ridiculous price they want for it? .Yes, its worth it. Because I can appreciate a car that rewards.

Its a warmish hatch in Jan Rap's hands. It will be a *** force to be reckoned with in Tuck's hands.

It is a petrolhead's chariot.

Thats the long and short of it."

"There are very few places you can do 200 nowadays. Thats not the point. Point is, it handles like nothing I have driven in a while.

Sure, as I said, its not fast by any stretch of the imagination. Most little hot hatches will be all over you. If you want a streetracer, this is not for you. If you are the type to go sleep early, get up at 3 and go for a blast, or the type that drives racing lines home from work, squirting it around bends and ***, then there is nothing on the market in this segment that will put a bigger smile on your face. I loved it..... and I hate f*g Auris.

It makes a Mini feel like its got cement in the tyres.

And as for the 9s thing. I doubt it. I rate middle 8's up here and unless the speedo was wildly optimistic.... 240 wasnt a problem."

This was what it could have been:
