Rav4.2 Adjustable Wiper Interval Diy

Nice 10 minute job this.

I've noticed that with no interval adjust on my RAV4 that I'm on the wiper stalk like the Gunner on the Millennium Falcon trying to get the wipers right.

It seems the Corolla had an interval wipe, so it's just a case of swapping over the stalks.

First get the right part. Notice how the connector is a single row with hidden pins and a small clip, the fixing is a single clip and the styling of the arm is slightly rounded.

There are several switches with all combinations of the above. Take your time to find the right one.

Here you can see the RAV4 wiper on the left and the wrong one on the right.

The right part.

On then to the car. Remove three screws holding in the cowl.

100_0617.jpg

Release the steering height adjuster and split the cowling into two.

100_0618.jpg

Remove the bottom cowl.

100_0721.jpg

And wiggle the top cowel up out of the way.

100_0622.jpg

Release the fixing clip with a screwdriver.

100_0722.jpg

And withdraw.

100_0723.jpg

Swap in the new switch and slide into place.

100_0748.jpg

And do a quick test.

100_0751.jpg

And begin reassembly, wiggle into place and snap in the top cowling.

100_0752.jpg

Snap on the lower cowl and replace the 3 screws, lock down the height adjust and you are done.

and this works with a straight Stalk swap? Edit:::: you had to chop and change wires? no loom avaliable?

My 2005 already has this stalk

Have you looked into the cruise control, Toyota sell the parts CC stalk and cable and clutch pedal switch, I wonder if its just a case of straight plugging in the bits to get it working?

Yep plug and play. MY photos show my mistake, ordering the wrong switch initially. They come with both connectors, and both fixing types (two screws, single clip). That makes at least 4 combinations, not including non pause wipe, which I think takes us to 8 combinations.

For a post 2003 like yours which is drive-by-wire it's just the clutch switch and stalk I think.

For the 1AZ-FE throttle cable operated car there is no UK retrofit kit, the only possibility is to import a Scion TC throttle body, actuator and harness from the USA which apparently did support cruise.

A har!!!! because for a Drive by wire golf I retro fitted CC to, I had to enable CC in the ECU also,

So for a Post 2003 Drive by wire RAV 4.2 do you think its just a case of fitting the relevant parts? and it will work, without touching the ECU?

Theres not a lot of Ecu software around for Toyota`s...............Unless you know different? ;)

I want to say yes as Hoovie did an aftermarket kit that didn't need coding, but I'm not 100% sure that it didn't actually hook into the pedal travel sender. Fairly sure I saw an OEM retrofit that needed no coding on here a while back. Maybe :S

Techstream does have a CUSTOMISE button for some ECU's but on my car there are no options therein to click, I wonder if I need a different grade of user licence. I should be able to do things like drive away locking or beep on lock like the US market cars have - and I can't.

Yes I think it would have a new ECU, it added fly by wire and TCS amongst other things, which would need more pins.
