1998 Avensis Alternator Rattle

Hey guys,

I am not a car expert - I know my different parts of the engine and I can change the oil, and that's about the limit of my experience.

I am currently experiencing a rattling noise at idle and low speeds, from the engine bay.

Listening around the engine, it seems to be coming from the alternator. It seems to speed up and slow down with engine speed.

My model is the 1998 Avensis 2.0 GLS Auto Saloon.

Any ideas what might be the problem, and better still - what sort of price will I be looking at to get it fixed?

It sounds like the bearings are going to me! You could contact Partking on here for a price or look at breakers yards or eBay for one...

Engine bay rattles are sometimes difficult to identify. You may want to consider removing the alternator drive-belt and running the engine briefly. This would help with the diagnosis.
