Time to see how the iQ behaves in the snow if it is your first winter of ownership.

Pressing and holding that button in might be required to stop some of the electrics doing their worst.

5 seconds hold & stay off was favourite with me.

Any opinions on On or Off

Or just Off (short press) & automatically back on as your speed rises.?

I live half way up a hill that for most of last year's bad spell wasn't cleared of snow and ice and the IQ behaved without problems, with everything left as standard (ie with the various aids left on).

Using a light touch on the accelerator was enough to prevent wheelspin, and traction control activation, and keep going.

Narrow-ish tyres help in snow, of course and winter tyres which I didn't have last year.

If you hit black ice then that is a different story.

Neither. If it does snow then I'll be swapping to the Leon with its winter rubber. :)

I will get my Nissan Navara out, as it's 4 wheel drive. I don't want to get my iQ hurt, she won't like it. HaHa!

Hi George

I thought it was better to leave it on, but as it has so much tech, as in traction control, VSC, ABS, Brake assist plus all the other safety gizmos. I don't really know.

Saw -7°C here this morning on the dashboard display. Pretty cold, day's like these I miss the heated windscreen and seats my last car had.

It's now 10pm and my wife could not get on the drive with her Fiat 500.

Had to go with a snow shovel and clear it.

I'm now at work (St. Pauls, London) and finish at 7am tomorrow. It should be an entertaining drive home. :) Thank god for snow tyres. :D

Got to say, having watched the AutoSock video they look good. Judging by the way she drives along that road afterwards, I'd say they are worth the money and look quite simple to fit. Of course, you'd have to be careful where you put them on and be very alert for cars careering towards you without them on. I am assuming that she had winter tyres -looked like it- on as she is in Germany, and if they didn't work... No snow here yet, but we had a small amount about three days ago, which didn't really last long. Even with winter tyres on, not really looking forward to snow on the ground. Where we live, we come out of the drive, downhill to a 90' right bend, then downhill again for about 25 yards. Then if we can get going its a 90' right and uphill on a single track road that is rarely cleared of snow -by a farmer and his tractor plough- up to the main road which is usually -can only go on last years evidence- cleared and gritted.

First pic is from drive showing down hill, then with snow -from last year- and the hill to get up. It's a short hill, but just level with the 30 limit signs is a bump that for some reason was a problem to get over when covered in ice and snow (in our front wheel drive summer tyred Mondeo).

The iQ was brilliant in the snow, a bit of a change from the BMW and Mercedes days which were dreadful and got stuck.
