In my local garage today, one chap who works there showed me a vehicle he had been working on almost all day.

A VW fox 52 reg.

The fault.......the Clutch pedal and its mountings had completly snapped off of a frame work of steel ( which all the pedals hinge on) which is bolted to the bulkhead under the dash.

To release the clutch pedal from the cable,he had to hacksaw it off !..because of the way its designed.

And when the driver braked, the same happened to the brake pedal.

It was all good powder coated metal, looked as though the welds had snapped off...i was amazed,i thought VW's were well built vehicles.

Mkiiv golf (2000-2004)Clutch pedals SNAP!!! due to poor welding,, after around 70 K miles ( I know from experience, bought a new one from VW just looked the same no change...................................Obviously nothing done to rectify the fault because no one has been killed for clutch failure.

But the same fault on the brake pedal (which by the way looked rock solid on the VW golf, so I can`t see any problems in the brake department) could be a killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Global companys covers up things in a Flash they have the power and funds too do so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it suprised me,i can tell you.

As i had been giving some thought to a VW in the future...to replace the Rav with.

Although my brother in law has a 55 reg tdi golf, that went wrong about a year ago...mind you it was only this remote engine start & so he could'nt pre warm his interior....on cold mornings.

All this fancy stuff.

Not surprising really. Just look at the major problems VAG are having with their ABS/traction control system and they definitely won't put it right outside the warranty even though they have known about it as a sub-con failure for at least two years. Say what you like about Toyota but their customer service response to the 2AD, Lexus acceleration & last year's braking non-issue has been exemplary.

Personally, I wouldn't have a VAG product.
