2001 Avensis D4D Passenger Side Headlight Bulb Replacement

Hello Everybody,

Just a quick post to ask for some help if that's ok?! ;)

The passenger side headlight bulb (dipped beam) has just blown on my 2001 Avensis. I have bought a replacement H7 bulb for it but it looks like an awkward job to fit it?!!

The manual offers no special advice on fitting a bulb that side. Am I really expected to be able to work with about 2 inches of space??!

I was wondering whether the fuse box and Battery need to be temporarily moved in order to do the job properly?

Thanks for reading, I would really appreciate some help from one of you experts! I have looked through some other posts but can't find any info relating to my specific problem.

Many Thanks,

Dave

This is a common problem of many modern cars that to computers that design them. I tried to change the bulb on my 2007 Avensis but gave up when it became apparent that the Battery would have to be shifted. Luckily my dealer changes bubs for free which is more than can be said for my FiL's Renault Scenic-front bumper had to be removed along with £90 from his wallet!

Hi Dave

It is possible to do this without removing anything, but it's an absolute pig of a job unless you have the fingers of a child.

When I did mine I removed the Battery, and used an old wing mirror. Fairly easy this way.

The really fun bulb is one the drivers side where I found standing facing the windscreen and virtually next to the tyre was the only way I cold get my right hand in !

And be very careful that the bulb is seated properly (i put a dot on the glass cover before taking the old one out to make sure it lined up right).

Let us know how its goes

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Reassuring to know its a common problem!

I shall definately try it first just removing the Battery. I have a small inspection mirror somewhere so will use this too.

I will let you know how it goes. I hope I don't have to get the sledgehammer out!! ha ha!

Thanks for the advice ;)

Dave
