anyone any idea what type of battery to get for my rav. it just about gave up on me trying to start it this morning

It would help Paul if you tell us petrol/diesel engine size and year.................................

Yuasa are very good and folk speak highly of Halfrauds with a three year warranty.

Hi Paul.

I would first suggest that you check with a Battery supplier to find out if the thing has just run down as the Battery takes a awful lot of stick in these cold conditions and may just need charging, especially if you are only doing short runs.

That sounds as if it may be the original Battery. If so, it's served well and now needs an honourable retirement to the recycling plant. You can always try recharging but I think DervDave summed things up nicely

Just my opinion,I would not fit a new Battery and hope for the best.

Not knowing how old the Battery is,only the car,I would not jump immediately to the assumption that it was old and that is why I though it was a good idea to have it checked first.

If the Battery was not at fault then a new one would not last any longer than a sound recharged one.

Hi Paul, not being funny but try doing a search first before opening up another thread on the same subject! Here is a link to a thread that 'Tech01' opened at the end of Jan 12, it has good info about cold cranking power...etc! You will see my (sniper9652) recommendation with the VARTA G8 which is proving to be an excellent buy! This was for a 2004 D4D XT4 so I don't know wether the facelift of the 4.2 altered the size of the Battery tray/compartment?..I don't think it did you will have to check!

After bragging recently that in 13 yrs of rav ownership (3 Ravs) i have not spent a penny on them, well today i have, £79-80p for a new Yuasa 335 Battery, 95Ah 700cca, just fitted it and it works so cannot say as yet whether or not its a good buy.. Bearing in mind that my Rav sometimes stands for a week or more without getting used, its lasted 4yrs + 8 mths and after trickle charging overnight my rav burst into life, although my charger showed fully charged the little glass hydrometer on the Battery itself still showed (needs charging) so i lashed out on a new one and even managed to fit it myself  Just wish the old Battery had a lifting handle like the new one as it was a Sod to lift out :ermm: anyway all up + running again now  Stew

Another string to your bow then Stew !!

One more step on the road to being a techie,Yes?

I used to have in my tools a gizmo that was like two slanty Ls on each end of a canvas strap that was slipped on the terminals and as you put tension on the handle they gripped the posts and you were able lift the Battery.

That, alas, grew legs and walked.
