From what I have seen on another forum, the article says that if cosmetic faults are noticed by a technician and have not been reported by the owner, and that the work required is not safety related, the technician would not repair the cosmetic fault under warranty. The article also says that owners have to complete a separate stencil to report such items.

Having had 15 new cars since 1987 - all from Japanese manufacturers - I think this is a common practice and not just related to Toyota. As regards reporting possible faults, be they cosmetic or otherwise, again, it is common practice for service receptions to record items that the owner wants checking, on the service schedule, and to get the owner to authorise the work by signing the service schedule prior to work starting on the car. I have never had to complete separate paperwork to enable the dealer to investigate possible faults. This is based on experience of owning 6 Nissans, 2 Hondas,3 Mazdas, and 4 Toyotas - all from new.

More mud slinging by the good old brittish press!

I took my RAV into my Toyota dealer two weeks ago and they reported that my wheels had a tiny bit of corrosion that I had not noticed, they ordered the parts that morning, they arrived mid afternoon the same day and were fitted by the time I collected the car. Leave Toyota alone Sunday Times there are few better car makers out there for customer service from my experiance.

More to the point, why are your alloys rusting in the first place. I had this on my Yaris about 5 years ago. Do they learn nothing? Sure, many cars alloys rust but there are certain manufacturers that last a lot longer than others. Oh, and guess what your new set will do?!
