Accelerator Failure

I had a terrible experience with my car today.Its a toyota avensis verso 2.0 automatic 2001.The accelerator just went down on the motorway and the brakes went stiff.It was sheer luck and experience that i was able to manouvre it to safety as it was just speeding without control,with the accelerator and brakes not working.

Someomne told me it might be an electrical problem e.g the fuse.Does any one have ideas?

Do you mean the car cut out ?

The car did not cut off power but was just moving on without control as the accelerator was flat and the brakes were stiff.
