Heater Smell

I'm getting a smell from my 08 avensis' heater. the smell is usually in the morning and smells like coolant to me. the floor is not damp and the smell goes away once the car is heated up. the water level was slightly down but not a lot. I'm thinking it must be a very small hole in the heater matrix and once the matrix is hot the coolant has evaporated and smell gone.

how hard is the matrix to replace on these models? i think it is behind the glovebox? anuone else experience this?
