On the 06 ones you do it like this:

1. Turn ignition key to 'acc' or 'lock' position with the odometer showing

2. while holding the trip reset button turn the ignition key to 'on'

After holding the key for 5 seconds the odometer shows all zeros and the light goes out.

Your odometer reading will return to normal afterwards

On a side; Does the 'spanner' only come on when the oil change is due? Or does is cover other issues as well?

mine only came on for the 20,000 oil change. It didn't even blink for the 10,000 oil change. The service manager let it slip that they 'don't even plug the computer in' on the 10,000 mile service.
