2010 Invincible Corrosion Issues

Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has had the problems i've had with the paint lifting at the door checks where the plastic trim meets the sills ?

I've covered less than 9K with this motor and noticed the paint starting to bubble at 3 of the 4 door sills when i was drying the door checks after washing. I returned the motor to the dealer who swiftly took it in for re-painting !.

I spoke too the body shop manager and he informed me that they had painted a number of recent hiluxes all with paint issues in the same area !, he told me that it was due to process problems at the factory secondary painting as he referred it to ie the paint is not as thick in and around the door checks, floor pans etc as it is on the outside bodywork.I have looked at this very closely as an "engineer" and what I make of it is the plastic trim comes in direct contact with the sill and due to the vibration of these motors it is chaffing on the paint until it is so thin that the water all be it from rain or washing, it eventually gets under the paint then becomes trapped resulting in rust expansion when the water is left in contact with the bare metal ??? This to me looks more of a design issue rather than a paint one ! Anyway motor was painted 10 weeks ago and I was quite pleased how it turned out " Had visions of them removing doors etc and as you know there never the same" but I have noticed that what I am now seeing as rust has returned and is worse than ever ????.

I have now contacted Toyota UK and am awaiting a reply, I have a 60 plate as well "wifes motor", it seems ok for now but it has done just over 2K.

Cheerz All.

HI

After reading your post i decided to take action to hopefully prevent this by trimming the plastic trim edge with a knife so as it dosent touch the metal of the sill so hopefully preventing any wear of the paint, also painted on some clear WAXOYL, mines a 61 plate 3.0 Invincible.
