Heating Problem

Hi

I have a 2.0 D4D T Spirit on a 54 plate (Avensis Diesel)

Over this weekend, I have had a problem with my heaters in my car.

I have been on earlies this weekend, which meant leaving home at 05:45am, The distance i travel to and from work is roughly about 10 miles eachway.

I have had no problem in starting the car, and the heating temp comes up nicely, but by the time I get just over 3/4's of the way to work the fans start blowing cold air.

The engine temp has reached the levels it should and the setting is on high.

This problem occured yesterday morning on the way to work, yesterday evening on the way home from work (12 hours later) and this morning on the way to work.

Can anyone please advise me on what the cause of this problem might be.

I have owned this car for 3 years now, and this is the 1st time it's happend.

Thanks TYRONE1978

Hi

The problem is likely to be lack of coolant. Topping up will solve this particular problem. However coolant just doesn't disappear. There may be a more serious problem causing the lack of fluid. Hopefully it is a small leak somewhere in the pipework. However the head gasket may have failed. Keep an eye on the levels and on the exhaust fumes. White exhaust gases suggest water in the cylinders which is expelled as steam.

Thanks Gary,

I think i'll just take it to Toyota for it's annual service and then see what they find.

Have you taken it to Toyota yet?

Just wondered if there had been any developments, as my heaters are doing something similar.

Set at 25 degrees, they blow warm for first 7 miles or so, then, not actually stone cold, but certainly the air is a lot cooler.

Coolant level is at max, temp gauge where it should be.

I'd be interested to see what your garage said about your heaters....

Sorry not a solution but more like support, I have noticed with mine as well, air con off, and temp set at say 24, during the really cold snap I made a 500 mile round trip and during that time I did feel as though cool air was making it into the cabin, then hot air as if cycles where happening. when I turned the temp up then the cabin got too hot and had to turn it down back to what I had initially set.

I notice it more on the long journeys esp on motorway rather than town. I have checked my coolant and it isn't that far off from the max level

Is it a quirk of the car? and confined to the diesels?

It could just be crappiness of the climate control feedback system letting the temperature over/undershoot.

But I'd definitely check the levels and keep an eye on them!
