Just Calculated My Mpg... 76 Miles Per Gallon!

I've been averaging around 60-65MPG in my iQ2 during everyday, mixed driving for the past few months. It dipped a bit when the cold weather started so I fitted the winter tyres that were on my previous car (same size). Since then, I noticed an increase in MPG compared to the standard Bridgestones.

Last week, I filled the tank, went on a 200 mile round-trip, and then just carried on as usual until the last light flashes.

At that point today, it had done a crazy 440 miles. I'm sure there were plenty of miles left in the tank but I filled up anyway.

So 440 miles, £35 to fill up at 132.9p and according to a website, that's 76MPG! I'm loving my iQ even more now! :D

You sure it wasn't towed a couple of hundred of those miles? :)

That's amazing, Makes my 47mpg look pretty bad.

I would check the miles traveled on the trip A or Trip B to see if they are the same increase on the odometer, Mine are nowhere near the same

I've got the latest computer and all seems okay. I've done a lot of driving this week so it certainly feels right :-)

I should have mentioned that I take it easy driving these days and "hyper mile" a little but I've always found it a very economical car :-)

WoW! That's cracking mileage Wayne. I have often wondered if someone somewhere in this country was going to set up a driving school where you learn hyper-miling techniques in your own car. Wayne, go see Alan Sugar, see what he thinks. :hokus-pokus: :driving:

Lol it's very easy to be honest... Stick within safe distance of the tallest trucks you can find and let it roll down hills where safe.

The iQ is an incredible little car and super economical.

I checked the accuracy of my trip a setting vs. the main odometer yesterday by the way and it's spot on :-)

This is my mate's iQ2. 62.8 mpg after going on a road trip driving 140 miles, the first bar's not even gone yet!

As I've been working night shifts this week (10pm to 7am) I was commuting into the St. Pauls area of London. I have averaged a 48.1MPG, and that was a struggle. I popped into my local dealer and spoke to their service department about the max 60MPG showing on my dash. He said that this wasn't a known issue and that this figure was what the car thought was the best I could achieve! That's even with off throttle down hill driving. So I smiled and indicated that he might want to look into that and get back to me. Got to love a dealers excuses.

No phone call yet. :disgust:

My car shows a max of 60mpg on the real time display too, I assumed that was normal?

I'm off on a long run on Sunday so will do a calculation when I return on my MPG and see what I can get. :)

This 60mpg anomaly is definitely a known fault and should have been fixed by a previous owner reporting it, if the car is second hand.

We discussed it in 2009/2010 in this forum (see attachment), I wrote to MrT Customer Relations at the time and was advised to take my car in to have the display unit changed for the "correct" one as the problem had been recognised as a fault and a remedy produced.

Obviously this has not been done on some cars and dealers are pretending they don't know about it!

Hmmm, That made interesting reading John, I may just pop back to my dealer tomorrow and have a chat although I think the workshop is closed on a Saturday so will probably have to wait till next week for a reply.

To be honest it doesn't bother me that it only reads up to 60mpg but if there is a fix available, I want it. :) I'll stick to doing my manual calculations at the minute then.

Another "problem" with having the display unit changed is that your odometer mileage is zeroed.

Some may look upon that as a bonus but it is not ideal as far as I am concerned.

I use a Scangauge for automatic fuel consumption display so I have never looked at the inbuilt one.

I just wanted my previous IQ to be "right", that is why I had the display unit changed.

In this current day and age, replacing the dash isn't that big of a deal, and they can reprogram the milage via the OBD port. Bet you they have the tools in the workshop.

I'll be going back to the dealers to have another discussion with them about getting it sorted. :)

Well just back from Mr T (Sidcup) and they are still denying that this is an issue. They will be contacting central tech support (Redhill/Regiate) for confirmation!

Just off the phone with the very helpful lady (Karen) at Sidcup and have my car in for its 'fix' on the 19th. :)

Sadly the speedo goes back to zero, but I'll have records of the milage.

Maybe I should take mine in The trip function says its done X miles on a trip but when you check it against the odometer its mules out (oops pun). Some times it shows 280 to a tank and other times 200. No change in driving style or traffic jams. From full( you can see the fuel at the filler cap), it does 120 to the first bar goes out another tin 78 again no change in driving. Very erratic

As expected.

There is a place in the service booklet for them to fill in the details when an odometer is changed.

Make sure they do it.

Just at the dealers now having the dash replaced. Handed them the book and he informed me that it wasn't needed!

Told him that it should be completed regardless. See how we get on.

Thanks for that golden nugget of information. I will be contacting my local dealer about it. I was a bit bothered at first about losing the current mileage from the display. But as long as it's in the log book, that'll be okay. Besides, it would be nice to finally have a car with zero mileage, yet nicely run in.

They have only listed the miles on the new dash thats been fitted! So 1 mile.

The excuse is that they have a record thinking that they are the only people to ever see the car!

The work was done pretty quickly, just now have to phone them back to get the original reading prior to change. Yeah ok I forgot as I've only had 2 hours sleep after a night shift.

Well, I think I got a result today from William A. Lewis, my local Toyota dealer. Not that I'm counting my chickens yet. The car is booked in for 11:00 on Friday 23rd. They said this will allow them to check the fuel readings and create the job sheet. Then order the part to replace and wait, book it in, get it done and Toyota San is your uncle.

I think I can deal with the mental anguish of work being done on the car. I will report more after the visit on Friday.

Sort 'em out Dan. Hope I don't have the same problems. Must note mileage when I go in on Friday, see how far they take it for a test drive. Note to self: 'Hide Gold Bullion bar currently under front passenger seat being used as ballast.'

Well, a result indeed! The car went in today at William A. Lewis, my local Mr. T. dealer in Shrewsbury. They did their tests, and all has come good. They agree with me, and admit it is a fault with the car, particularly that little box that glows with so much potential, and fails. It fails on the fuel accuracy front, and on the 'going above 60mpg average counter.' So, they're gonna call me to let me know when it can be replaced. I have noted Dan's problems and will do my utmost to uphold this forums high standards and not let them forget to include the correct information in the correct box of the service book. So I will.

'You can actually "talk" to the atmel chip and put what milage you like in but thats another story. Don't think there is any cure for mine, It has lost the plot

All dash modules can be re-programmed, but Mr T. makes a note of the current mileage prior to replacing the unit, so if you were to re-program it, they would go and get all confused. I think they should do it as part of course myeslf.

Well I am lucky if I am getting 42 mpg now - got to say I am a bit disappointed. I have a IQ2 Multidrive with mileage of just short of 5K - hope it improves.
