I get 48 with the wind blowing in the right direction and there is no R in the month

And Dan yes they should make a note and put it back again. It must be the only item that is replaced and is not the same as before

Well I am lucky if I am getting 42 mpg now - got to say I am a bit disappointed. I have a IQ2 Multidrive with mileage of just short of 5K - hope it improves.

Just for information, I have just come back from a few days away in Northumberland and the trip home was about 150miles on 60mph A roads and it was possible to keep to that speed pretty well all the way except when going through towns.

The MPG at the end of the trip was 56 (indicated on the Scangauge which is accurately calibrated, and gives the average MPG for the days running, the way I have it set up.)

Happy with that, as the car was fully loaded and I wasn't trying to be economical, just keep up with the traffic.

It is an IQ2, manual, bought July 2011.

Darren, I first want to say that I mean no offense when I say this, it could be your driving habits. Also, the roads you travel on, the time... blah de blah and so on. Of course you know that. I am just saying that when I moved from a T'reg 2.0 petrol Mondeo Auto, with a best expected mpg of 32 officlally, and having learned to drive that in the most economical way, I still had a shock when first driving the iQ. It is a 1.0 base model, or the '1,' and it's a manual.

I have since learned -we got our purple wonder last year, end of September- that what I thought was good eco-driving wasn't. It was mostly down to the Mondeo being an auto, although it did coast quite a way as a consequence. I don't drive with economy in mind every minute I'm out in the iQ, as I like a little blast now and again, telling myself it's good for the car. But I do try to the majority of the time.

Yesterday I drove into Shrewsbury from where I live, which on this trip was about 18 miles. Most of that is on 'B' road's and some dual carriageway. Generally I can sit at 50 or 60, but I find the annoyance of 40 and 30 limits (which I do stick to, only cos I want to keep a clean licence) along the way a real hindrance to eco-driving. A lighter foot is hard to employ, and so is driving thoughtfully. By that, I mean concentrating on your route, what lies ahead. Traffic lights on red some distance away, lift off, maybe when you get there they'll change, or at least you might not be sat there as long watching the AVG MPG on the screen drop. All those hard earned numbers after the point dissapearing fast whilst you wait for the lights to turn green. Coming up to a corner and you know you have to slow for it, lift off early so you don't have to break for it. If there are people behind, up your chuff, ignore them. You're trying to save fuel and money. If they want to go burning their's like it's water, let them. I have found that most of the drivers doing this these day's, at least to me, are women!

I used to drive fast, in the past. I had a Cavalier 2000 GSi that I had topped out at 140mph on a few occasions, on others I could get 40mpg from it at 70mph on the motorway. Mad. That was then. I had that car for 8 years and never thought I'd get one better. I have, the iQ. Mainly because I'm older now, I see the folly of speeding. Not because it isn't fun, because I still like to drive fast. It just isn't worth it these days. The fun has gone out of driving fast. The cops get you, the government get's you... I hate that. So my new plan is stay legal and stuff them. They are not getting any more money from me. Except for rip-off fuel prices and car insurance, and maintenance.

Sorry, rambled on a bit here. Like I said, no intention of patronising you or anyone else on this forum. Just to say the iQ requires a different frame of mind when at the wheel. It takes time to adjust to saving fuel and giving a two fingered salute to the Gov every time you fill up at a third of the price it costs for a lot of cars to fill up these days. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Filled up this morning after a nice motorway run and a week of city driving. Average is 47 MPG.

Pretty happy with this, as I'm not one to hang about. :)

If my wife gets 70+ MPG I will be very happy, bet she doesn't though. Quite concerned at the number of people getting less than 50 in an iQ, my last fuel up in my 2.2 Avensis was 55MPG.

I think it comes down to how and where it's being driven. The bulk of my driving is within the city of London, so lots more stop/start and as I said I'm not one to hang around. ;)

Don't know if I posted this somewhere else on here, but, William A. Lewis of Shrewsbury did a fine job. They were polite and had already completed the service log to say a new computer module had been fitted along with the previous mileage. I did the coasting downhill thing, and it's a little bizarre seeing 99.9mpg appear on the instant MPG.

Looking forward to a pretty decent long run (but only 70+ miles) next week, see what I get both ways as quite a lot of that is on dual carriageway, steady speed hopefully.

Dan, that must be so frustrating sitting in traffic for so long.

Thankfully I am usually going to other way to most of the traffic, as in coming into London when everyone is leaving and leaving when everyone else is coming in. The one and only perk of shift work. :(
