Windscreen Washer Issue?

Hi Everyone,

I am having some difficulties getting any water out of the front jets of my windscreen washer (Auris 07 T3 petrol). The rear jet is working and when I pull on the stalk for the forward jets I can hear the pump and a drip or two comes out of the jets. The fluid level has been checked and its 10 degrees outside so I am pretty sure nothing has frozen.

I am guessing there is a blockage somewhere in the lines and was wondering if anyone has any advice/ideas of how to flush the lines?

Thanks in advance.

The pipe may have come loose during the cold spell, as sometimes a connection may pop off as the ice forms.

Park the car on a dry patch of tarmac/concrete and give the washers a good long blast, then check underneath the car for any puddle. Also check to bonnet lining, and if you can get someone to look under the bonnet while you do it, this may also help to pinpoint the area the water is escaping to.

Failing that, you may have blocked nozzles so find a sewing needle or pin and have a poke around to see if that dislodges anything.

Thanks for your suggestion Davey. I had a look and it doesnt look like its a loose pipe. Same goes for the nozzles which have had my wife's sewing kit at them.

I have exactly the same problem and so far havent found a solution. Two new washer jets are about £26.00- Toyota knows how to charge for small peices of plastic!!!!!!

Washer bottles can pretty gungy inside. Might be worth squirting a hose with suitable nozzle into the reservoir and use some old hose to keep syphoning the contents back out. Can be all sorts of algae and slime in there.

Not sure how the Auris system works. Often the same motor is used for front and rear jets and the direction of the pump reversed to select one or the other with a simple valve to direct the flow to the appropriate jets.

Have you tried blowing down the line from the front jets to dislodge anything in the pump/valve/filter.

I found my problem with poor/no washers.

The washers jet were clear and no problems with the pipework BUT I found where the wtaer tubing comes along the bonnet hinge it was being crimped.

Moved the pipe a little( there is not a lot of slack - problem solved,

Cost zero but about an hour trying to find the problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I followed Sandy's advice and followed the lines all the way up to where they enter the trim on the bonnet (just before they get to the jets). I can feel the line is under pressure and filled with water up until then when the jets are working so I think the blockage is in the line before it reaches the jets (I have already poked some line down the jets with no joy). Sandy, how did you get the trim off the bonnet without breaking it? I have had a couple of attempts with a screwdriver and the plastic holds are not giving way.

The pipe was crimped JUST BEFORE the bonnet hinge, I just moved it a few mm and it was clear.

To get the sound deadening pad off I used a trim removal tool. I bought it for taking out a radio but worked for this as well.

I did damage one plastic pin.
