Well don't know if this is good or bad news! Looked for any markings on Duelers but couldnt find any. I let the tyre down and it went totally flat so theres no ring inside. I did some research on the Bridgestone runflat site and it doesnt even list the 235x55x18 Duelers as having a runflat version.

Reading back through the posts #2 says "You should notify your insurance company if you remove the BSR system and fit normal tyres.

No extra premium is likely as the car will be as the latest spec SR Rav4. IE no BSR system and a tyre repair kit in the boot."

Does this mean I my car is the latest spec SR, its says SR in the service book and its just 3 years old. If so I need the repair kit, what exactly is it as I have nothing in the boot apart from a jack and locking wheel nut key?

Thanks for all the replies.

Angelos

Bear in mind there are Duellers (Runflat Version) and Duellers (you guessed it....non runflat version.) If the runflat symbol is not on the duellers, good....they are standard Duellers. Now Angelos....if you could post up a photo of each tyre valve it will be very simple to identify if you have the TPMS valves still in place, as they differ greatly from "standard" tyre valves, so please photo asap. Any problems uploading to TOC site, PM me or Charlie (if that be ok.....?) with said photos and we will advise.

I THINK YOU ARE IN FOR GOOD NEWS, MATEY, IN THAT SOMEBODY HAS KINDLY REMOVED THE BLASTED SYSTEM AND BYPASSED / REMOVED / SWITCHED OFF THE SENDERS......did you get any light on the deflation you did ???? Also, if you want to carry a spare on long journeys, again PM me and I will see what I can do with the TWO wheels I have in stock. They are matching SR 5 spoke like what which you already have (unless that's changed too.....?) One already has a new member's name on it who has had to delay for now.

As for Davrav's comments re me having a twi twi twitch reading and contributing to a Runflat post, what naw naw nonsense....!!!! I take conception to that.

Big Kev....Ward 10.

EDITATION : REMEMBER I SAID I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER Bridgestone TYRE (OR EVEN GOLF BALL) ? GUESS WHAT TYRES ARE ON MA NEW CAR......? Bridgestone DUELLERS, AND THEY ARE SUPERB.....NEVER HAVE I SAID OTHERWISE. SHURRIT, DAVRAV !!!!

Just the letting down of a tyre would not trigger the light on the dashboard for some time..

When I swapped to new wheels with normal tyres and normal valves it was not until I had driven just over 100 miles that the light came on...

But I had fitted the switch so I could turn it off again.. Just wanted to see how far I would need to go before said light came on...

Reading the above posts am I right in assuming my 2009 2.2 D-CAT SR does not have run flats. I was told by the previous owner it did.

I went down to Toyota today for the rear suspension recall and asked them but they didnt know "it probably has" was the response. According to the handbook there should be an "O" marking on the tyres if they are runflat but I can't see one. The tyres fitted at the moment are:

Rear Bridgestone Dueller HT687 235 x 55 x18

Front Bridgestone Potenza RE031 235 x 55 x 18

Is does have a tyre pressure monitoring system but is there any way of finding out without having the tyres removed?

Thanks

Had the exact same tyres on my T180 when i bought it. Had the rings cut off the the back, all replaced all 4 tyres.

TPMS still running with normal tyres fitted. Carry a string puncture repair kit and joined the toyota club for good AA cover.

It has just come to me in a flash.......Angelos....do you have the SR180....OR one of the first "SR" models.....?

The SR 180 obviously deffo had runflats.....the first SR's had them binned (coz Toyota knew they had messed up BIG TIME.)

I always thought the SR without the Flunrats did not evolve until 2010, so I presumed your SR would be the 180.....?

Well had a good look at the dash and according to the handbook the tyre pressure light is just below the green DAC light and the amber Malfunction indicator light (EML). When I start up everything lights up except for the tyre pressure light, it doesn't exist! So I've been duped on two counts, no TPWS and no runflats. Will try to post a pic of the valve but struggling to do it on my iPad.

If you bought the car from a Toyota dealer you could argue the following......

The car should have been equipped with the run flat system and the TPMS system in place and working. Therefore the car has been supplied not as intended and maybe not fit for ?

Without looking very closely at your tyres it is not possible to say if they are the original run flat tyres fitted to the wheels without the TPMS kit and of course the BSR rings.

Valves look like normal ones to me but I cant make out the tyres that well.

Would it help if I were to take a photo of said designation symbol ?

Thanks for the offer Charlie but no need, I think they are ordinary tyres and no TPMS is fitted. I would have gone back to the dealer but I bought the car from a mate who was trading it in. He got it from a Toyota dealer when it was less than a year old. I haven't been able to find out any more as he's been abroad for a month, he's back tomorrow though. My gut feeling is it never had run flats and should have had the repair kit in the back. Will have a look at sourcing one myself. Thanks for all your help.

Looks like Angelos has ONE OF THE EARLY SR150'S, Charlie, or he could have walked round back of his car to view the "SR180" badging. We have both presumed on reading SR nomenclature that it would have Flunrats....not the case, and his valves certainly are nothing like those on a TPMS equipped car.

I *think* the SR150 had the Automatic Gearbox as standard from Day 1, as opposed to the SR180 with only Manual, so very simple way to check (if I am right, that is) is "Does it have a Manual or an Auto Box?"

Utterly confused am I................. I too thought the later shape SR had only auto trans.... Wheels on later cars were different ? I thought said wheels had the smoked finish ?

It could be an early 150 with the correct tyres . Or it could be a 180 with its run flats removed..

Normal valves can or could have been fitted in place of the TPMS ones along with of course normal tyres.

Wonder if the owners handbook with the car has a section for run flats ??

Its an auto and there is a section on run flats and the TPMS in the manual. The manual probably covers other models as everything is duplicated regarding the keyless system and some things are mentioned (like the cubby hole by the interior lights and rear view screen in the interior mirror) that don't exist. BTW theres no 180 Badge!

If your car is an auto it has NEVER had the run flat tyres or any of the other stuff that goes along with it....

No 180 BHP cars had the option of automatic transmission they were al six speed manuals,,

So carry on as you were but with NO worries whatsoever....... :toot: :toot:

Except being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat!

Well I'm glad we got to the bottom of that.

Thanks for all your time and advice chaps, much appreciated. :D

  • 4 months later...

Hi guys.
I've just had the bands cut out today on my BSR runflats and fitted new conventional tyres with standard valves,
My question is would a toyota dealer delete the tyre pressure warning light,(which I doubt),or does anyone know an indie garage in the lancashire area who could do it for me?
Thanks.
