Avensis Warning Lights

Hi All, My Avensis D4DT4 on 55 plate is showing warninG lights for malfunction indicator lamp and V.S.C. and T.R.C. off my local small garage mechanic has used his diagnostic bit of kit and it shows up as fault code P400 E.G.R. malfunction. We assume this means we should replace the E.G.R. valve but does anyone out there think differently. Do you think this could lead to more expense or lead us on to the next possible problem before finding the real problem? The car is running fine but I need to sort it out before MOT.

Thanks for any advice.

Hiya mate... The EGR valve can be taken off and cleaned with carb cleaner! How many miles on the clock has it? Are you aware that there is an extended warranty for 112k or 7 years? This covers things like EGR valves and head gasket issues! Take a look on here for the TSB on it! You might be covered. If you dont find it then I'll post one up here for you mate...

I would clean the EGR refit then reset the warning lights and see what happens before buying a new one, how many miles has the car done?

This is the TSB...http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=10737

Take a look at it as if the issues you're having is linked to it then you could end up getting a new engine FOC from Toyota like I and many others have had... My 2 engines that have been replaced cost 13k. I would leave the EGR valve alone and take it intio the main dealer!...

Hope this helps
